From what I have heard, Inzi's innings was a stunner.

Regarding the live coverage in Aus (or lack of), I'm surprised to say the least, but as the series was finalised late it is understandable as to why it is not being shown. It's a shame for all you asians in aus, at least you get highlights.

Over here in England we get the opposite, live coverage and no highlights, i think! (very annoying when you are at university, my dad could have taped the highlights). It is being shown on Sky Sports 2.

Thanks for the commentry link 'vishnureddy'

I'm beginning to ponder at whether Fox Sports could have a cricket channel. It already has the AFL channel, and AFL is really only immensely popular in Victoria. With the amount of cricket being played world wide these days, a cricket channel or two would work. I'm sure it would garner more ratings since AFL season only happens in winter while cricket technically is happens yearly with international tours. I'm sure today's India/Pakistan match would of gathered huge ratings tonight. Not only from the Indian and Pakistani public living in Australia, but I'm sure many Australians would of switched on to watch it too.

Disappointing but I'm grateful for the highlights.
Actually, NSW is the only state AFL isn't too popular.

AFL in Victoria, WA, Adelaide and to an extent Brisbane (as of their success) is hugely popular. Moreso than a Pakistan/India game.

Let me guess, you aren't an AFL fan?

One of the best ODI innings I've seen from Inzi...pure class (he seems to have really improved his running bt. the wickets  )

The scary thing is the paks conceded 349 b'coz their bowlers bowled poorly.None of the main Indian bowlers seemed to bowl off-line too much and they still conceded 344!! This is mainly because nobody looked like picking up wickets. They were bowling defensively throughout. So Pakistan could allow the ReqdRR to climb to even 9 . Irfan has to come in...I'm not sure in place of whom though.

I think they were missing a regular fifth bowler.

Out of the three Indian pasers, Nehra was the best for me.

Incorrect, as a Melbournite I am a huge AFL fan.
I'm not sure if you're familiar with the AFL channels, but they continously repeat old games from seasons ago. Now tell me, even with Brisbane's success do Queenslanders tune in to watch a round 8 Richmond vs. Kangaroos game from last season? Obviously not.

AFL isn't so popular outside Victoria whereby AFL fans will watch old games. You tell me the ratings for the Wizard Home Loans final tonight in Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth. I guarantee you it will be low. Interstate fans only watch their own team. Its a fact and having an AFL channel which repeats old games which do not garner ratings is a waste. The AFL channel is useful 3 - 4 months of the year, that's about it. This is coming from a passionate AFL fan too. Go Tigers.

that was a great match but pakistan and india have to look at their bowling.pakistans strike bowlers bowled awful especially sami and razzaq.if pakistan gave away less extras they would have won with balls to spare.India also need to make more runs of the last ten overs.I think they made 30 of the last five overs.Inzi had a great innings

guys, it's time to concentrate back on cricket ! you can't debate over AFL's popularity in all states but NSW. it's phenominal.. but let's say most of good matches are shown live free to air via channel 9 and 10.... and when winter is over there show past matches... i guess this is one of the reason why foxtel has now included fox footy with normal package... that's not case with cricket.... foxtel can have fox cricket channel with live sport almost every day of year plus there would be chance for showing pura cup which was very popular on OPTUS TV.

Exactly, I would of loved to see some Pura Cup matches this year too. With Elliott and Hussey in form it would of got some ratings. I am a huge AFL fan but the AFL channel for me would garner less benefits to Foxtel than a cricket channel would.

2 questions.....why did naved ul hassan play instead of shabbir ahmed or saqlain mushtaq?? and why did he bat above shoaib akthar when we all know that shoaib can definetly hit the ball a long way???

he certainly didnt bat like one....did they really think hes better than saqlain?
He din't bowl like one either!!

Saqlain and Afridi performed very poorly both at domestic level and in the practice match played just before the first ODI, as such they were discarded.

My Congrats to Indian fans, their team played better and were the deserving winners.

I think Pak bowling was criminal, Sami in particular was awful. If Shabbir gets fit for second onedayer then i believe the player that should get the axe should either be Razzak or Sami.

This may be an exciting match to many, but I think this was just plain unimpressive, unconvincing, sloppy and disappointing cricket by the Indians. Everyone knows 349 is a winning score. This was a chance for the seamers to take more wickets. This was a good chance for Karthik to return to form of the TVS cup. This was a good chance for Sehwag to develop into an all-rounder. All failed. They made heavy weather out of something easy. Sometimes, I have to ask, is Ganguly really the right man to have as captain of a fielding side? He can make speeches, but he can't rescue his team when fielding, when the opposition batting is going great guns. If the final overs were good, it is only the bowlers who get the credit, with Mohammed Kaif taking that catch. That said, it was a very good innings from Inzamam- he deserved the Man of the Match award.

The fielders have to practice direct hit throws. All of their hits missed. They are good fielders, but this is one aspect that needs a lot of work. One batsman has to be replaced by a bowler. Ramesh Powar should get a chance. He can do far better than Ganguly and Tendulkar, who should stick to batting and fielding. That said, Zaheer should practice his batting a lot more- he is capable of playing a quick innings of 30-40 and that can be quite effective.

17 runs of one delivery..
So where are the die hard Pakistani fans now ?? Bouncer,Hellraiser.. etc .

Man Pak bowling is a pile or garbage, even Bangladeh could have done a better job. Sami is probably the worst ever OD bowler and what the hell was Naveed doing? 17 runs of just one delivery...LOL. I was dissapointed with Indian batting a bit, i thought if we had Laxman we would probably had reached 400 total.

I think India was better than Pak in all three department of the game, Batting, bowling and fielding.

Though the game went close coz of Inzi's brillaint effort, the rest of the games would probably won't go closer and i believe India would now win them at ease.

5-0 to India or maybe 4-1 to India, that what the series would go India's way.

iam getting frustrated of india picking extra batsmen in favour bowler it is abt. time they pick powar instead of kaif.and remember powar can bat too.
i thought PAK A taught them a lesson but i guess i was wrong.

What a great match, probably the best match I've seen in my life :). What an innings by Inzi..superb, didnt ever look like he was going to get out..but I think being there..batting for 2 hours or so took its toll on him. I was however impressed by the Indian bowling the first 5, and in the last 4 overs...but Inzimam, he even hit a four..on a yorker, just too good 8D

It all started under this unprecedented hype and Ian Chappel made a valid point when he said that its a pressure situation by all means and in such situations you gotta let your batsmen take charge of the situation no matter how good your bowling is. Imran khan added that Indian bowling was pulverized from that Pakistan 'A' match, they were short of confidence and they should have been bowling but All i can make of it that Inzimam was being hospitable. Probably the moisture in the pitch prompted Inzimam's decision to bowl first but it was always gonna dry within 15 overs.

Team Selection

Going on belter of a pitch with two specialist and three all rounders was always going to be a bad decisions. More so when Razzaq is no where his best. Rest of the team was fine and most of them pick themselves. Team mangement opted for experience of Younis Khan instead of Afridi.

Bowling

Pakistani bowlers, rather than backing thier captain's decisions, sprayed the ball over all while over stepping. Results were flurry of boundaries off no balls. Shoaib and Sami got appreciative movement in the beginning but good balls were rare and Sehwag-Sachin combo was in full punishing mode and that they did. Luck favoured them as Sehwag was dropped and sachin was caught off a no ball. Shoaib got sachin with the help of a good catch from Naveed but with the arrival of Ganguly,Sehwag went berzerk and younger bowlers couldnt cope with the pressue. In the end thier wides and no balls were the telling factor in the match.
-Shoaib Akhtar bowled with fire but he too was culprit of too many extras in the beginning. But he was unlukcy in the sense that Sehwag was dropped by Shoaib Malik in the third over and in fifth over , Sachin was caught off a no ball. In the end he was impressive and didnt let indians score off him that much.
-Sami was really disappoinging from the start, he beat the bat on rare occassions but didnt stick to one line and length and was culprit of too many extras. He bowled horribly except for the last two overs when he got those yourkers working for him.
-Rana naveed, the rookie all rounder was greeted with 32 runs off his 2 overs which included a lot of no balls. He got it back in the end with three top wickets but the damage was done in the beginning. Nonetheless good effort by him.
-For me pick of the bowlers was Shoaib Malik. He controlled the middle of the innings and was the least expensive of the bowlers.
-Razzaq was horrible with the ball, and his body language was lethargic to say the least.

Fielding

Generally, the fielding was sharp and pakistani fielders saved quite a few runs in the outfield but they could have done better specially Sehwag's catch was a crucial drop by Shoaib Malik, generally a better fielder.

Batting

Pakistan have shrugged off the labal of notoriuos chasers in past few series and today they proved why thier chasing has become this brilliant. Today pakistan batting had method, approach and common sense. Running between the wickets was awesome. Partnership between Youhana and Inzi and later on between Inzi and Younis were methodical and aggressive.
-Imran Farhat played few nice shots and looked in quite a good touch but he should have gone on on this batting paradise.
-Yasir Hameed playd and missed quite a few and his timing was out. Soon he was on his way.
-Youhana was awesome, initially he concentrated on singles and doubles with occassional boundaries but later on he started playing big shots and duly deleivered. Too bad he got out at a critical juncture. But he gave innings the required impetus when it needed most.
-If youhana was awesome, then inzimam was doubly impressive. The way he took the burden on his shoulders and nearly won the match for us was unbeilvable. Just before he got out, he was toying with Indian bowling and was hitting them wherever he wanted with utter disdain. He ran hard and made ones into twos. One of the best ODI innings while chasing.
-Younis Khan had a big question mark on his question career and today he played an intelligent innings, he hit boundaries when needed but mostly gave strike to Inzimam. By doing so, he made sure that dropping him would take a lot of courage from now on.
-Razzaq, Moin and Shoaib Malik tried thier best., Razzaq specially was at his hitting best. Thats why its hard to drop this guy, he is a match winner down the order. Moin couldnt win it for us but him and malik made sure pakistan takes the fight to the last over. Rana Naveeds struggled through inexperience though.

Captaincy

Inzimam was looking as unintersted in the field as one can get and he misses the tricks too many times in the field. His field placings are conventional though he deserve credit for his innovation tht got rid of Sachin Tendulkar. In the end, he should have opted for more experienced hitters like Shoaib Akhtar instead of Rana Naveed. But when he was batting, he seemed like a born captain, takign the team with him and staying till the end. He should be more invovled in the field too, after all he is the captain.

Conclusion

We have witnessed one of the greatest ODIs of all time and this historical series could not have started on a better note. Had pakistan controlled thier extras, it could have been all different and we would have created a world record but that did not happen and in the end it was the deciding factor. Lots of thought is needed to accomodate a sixth bowler because any bowler can have a bad day. And they have options of dropping one of the openers and bringing back Afridi but that would require deep thought. Shabbir will be back too and hopefully he will give the required depth in bowling. Pakistan will feel that with a bit of control in bowling department should be enough for them to chase a decent score or defend a good target -- even on pitches like these.

From what I saw of Shabbir in NZ, I don't think he's going to be too much of a danger with the bat.

Shoaib (when he's in the mood) can play some handy quickfire innings.
