Amazing to think that Sachin has been playing international cricket for near on 20 years now too :-O

What a player.

Unless he retires before December, he will join a very short list of players who have played Test cricket over four separate decades.

No reason why he couldn't go for another 5 years or more is there? Even if it's just in Test cricket? He still looks as fit as ever.

I think he is fit, but his elbow always seems to be giving him problems. Plus, while he is still worth his place, I don't see him going past 2011. I think he'll probably use the world cup in the subcontinent as a place to retire, at the very least from ODIs, and probably from Tests too.

Indeed. 20 Years with Consistent performance and that's what makes even more special. There have been many who played cricket for 20 years but none with so much consistency and same high level performance.

156 Test matches and counting..

Was really hoping NZ would get Sachin early this morning and concede a lead no larger than 100. Apart from it keeping us in the game, am looking forward to NZ batting again. Comments like this in cricinfo don't fill me with confidence though:

111.4 Franklin to Tendulkar, 4 byes, this one suddenly shoots through low after pitching outside off and the ball shoots under his bat as he shapes to cut, McCullum can't get his gloves underneath it

Just browsed cricinfo, and people are talking about declaring? No way. Bat as long as you can, until tomorrow if you can get away with it, and then give yourself about five sessions. Why would you declare anytime soon? Nothing you can accomplish by declaring today that you couldn't do by declaring tomorrow, and you'd be in a better position.

The point is moot obviously, as NZ are almost into the tail and it only takes one session. But the declaration should not even be an option right now.
