Which is rather silly. It's a fantastic ground to watch cricket. I've been there all 3 days and it's been superb.

Lovely location in Kingsland too. Good bars and cafes.
No more beersies for you

A test cricket ground should involve grass embankments, not a concrete jungle with overpriced entry and food/drinks

I'd rather have nice clean toilets that you don't need to cue for, good seats where everyone can see everything no matter where they're sitting, and not have to have my undies ride up my crack while I gradually slide down a grassy bank.

Don't get me wrong, being from Wellington I love the Basin but this match has been a very nice experience as a spectator.

went looking for a domestic middle order batsman averaging 40+ this season since taylor still at risk of missing the second test and jesse did a jesse, and well the first name i found who meets the criteria is jimmy franklin...

James Franklin 559 @ 62.11
Joe Carter 526 @ 47.81
Michael Pollard 492 @ 61.50

and then come the two colins...

annoyingly the likes of macewell, craigchopa and mitchell are all high 30s. on that list this is pollard's first big season and carter's first season.

The English and the Australians still have no problems packing in tens of thousands into their concrete jungles.

Southee's career bowling average to drop below 30 tomorrow. You heard it here first.

I honestly think India will be bowled out for about 260.
It feels like there on track for about 400 all out. So I am putting my money on a cliff hanger finish,

Longer Answer:
I do think batting conditions will be harder tomorrow on a day four pitch than they were after tea today and if you believe McMillan that the BJ watling delivery stayed low then we may see more of that. However India have some gun batsman still in the sheds and Dhoni will put a high price on his wicket.

Lads..if your bowlers are fresh and come running in hard then of course the odds are well in your favor..But if Pujara and Kohli hang around then that's when things will get dangerous..the concern is everything revolves around Southee and Boult in the main..Wagner can have his good days but more often than not flatters to deceive...while Sodhi is just "there"..he needs to start taking wickets now

Yeah, I think we'll know the result of the match, one way or the other, by the end of the first hour.

I expect your prediction an hour after play starts and if it's wrong there will be consequences.

I'm possibly slightly biased given I'm from Otago but surely we don't replace an opener unless we're sure the guy coming in will do better. I can't say I think any of the alternatives are better than Ruds or Fulton or are likely to give us a significantly better start than we've been getting over the last year.
I think Latham would do pretty well, but I think they need to persevere with Rutherford. He scored 62 in the first test against the Windies and was 48 not out in the last one, hitting the winning runs.

I would replace one opener but not both. Replacing both openers midway through the series is a bit too much.

Latham shouldn't come in for Taylor in the second test if Rossco has to miss it. He is an opener so he should open. Simple as that.

Really hope we get a couple of wickets in the first hour tomorrow. Would put my nerves at ease. If we lost this after a 300 run first innings lead...

Just disappointing we still suffer from the 3rd day, 3rd innings batting collapse. The most famous example being Pakistan at Wellington in 2003, which Pakistan won with ease, chasing down 270 with only 3 wickets down. That was against Shoaib Akhtar though. Today there was no extreme pace. Just 6 out of the top 7 all failing together in one innings. This very rare phenomenon only seems to happen to New Zealand. Can't put my finger on it.
