Nevermind.. but he should've been selected before this.
As I understand it (and correct me if I'm wrong) up until very recently his List A performances haven't been that great. He's now made a compelling case and has been selected.......I don't think that was the case before.

I just think the criticism of both Cook and Bell and their strike rates is absurd.......sure if you've got a Warner at the top of the innings it's nice to have, but I think sometimes peoples opinions on the One Day game is getting clouded with T20. To me a 100 from 120 balls from your opening batsmen is more valuable in the One Day game than 30 off 15.

To put it into perspective both their career strike rates are comparable to Matthew Haydens FFS. And if you look at Bells record over the last 3 years there is no way he was ever getting dropped for Hales, and tbh I'm not even sure he should be getting moved down the order for him.........but I'll give Hales the benefit there before I say it's a mistake.

Yeah look, you could make a good case to say Hales should've been selected earlier, and I support his selection here, but him not being picked was hardly the crime of the century.

There's no way Bell shouldn't be in the ODI side on current evidence.

Sure get Hales in there too but you can't criticise Bell while upping Root's cause, for example.

Stokes is an interesting case of a long format strokemaker who probably doesn't have strike rotation and hit-from-first-ball abilities just yet.

Buttler is the great white hope for England and I see nothing wrong with setting up the game for him to come in with 15-20 overs to go.

I was under the impression that he wasn't selected for the Ind series based on the article - he should've been picked for the SL series itself at least imo. It would've been the crime of the century if he had not been for Ind.

Yeah Adders that is obviously a more useful innings but Ian Bell has precisely 3 ODI hundreds in 146 matches, so its not like he is regularly doing that either.

That's a very good point, and for his quality Bell's conversion rate in ODI's is piss poor. But tbf he has made 2 of those 3 tons in the last 3 years and his average for an opening bat during that period is pretty bloody good.

Anyway, I'm pleased that Hales has got his shot and I hope he does well.

Bloody knew it, utterly ludicrous decision to drop Stokes from the Test side and then he's playing Mickey Mouse cricket which he's nowhere near as good at.

Yeah, ludicrous decision to drop an all-rounder who'd had 3 ducks in a row, and a run of scores in last 10 International innings of 0,5,5,4,0,4,0,0,0,0. Not ignoring the fact that we also went on to absolutely dominate the series.

TBF to Scaly (and it is rare that I agree with him) but half of those scores are in the ODI format.......I don't think he should be playing here any more than he should have been playing in the tests.

He should be batting 10 in this line up.

Edit:

Sorry, re read his post......and I don't think it was ludicrous to drop him from the test side.

Tests, ODI's, T20's, whatever, they're all International games, and a run of scores only Chris Martin would be proud of. He was in miserable form with the bat, looked to be completely lacking in confidence, and it's not like we missed him with the ball when he did go.

Err what? Woakes and Jordan took what was it, 4 wickets in the next two Tests between them? Two of those were during the last rites - last two balls of the Test.

By the last Test India were so shot a Mums Eleven would have bowled them out in under two sessions.
