Ponting did look alright for a while. He started right, but that was against AA (doesn't count?)
Hayden was much worse, he played and missed, he rode his luck, you could see his dismissal was nigh.
pfftt...they must have been showing a different Aus v India on the t.v. then.

'pfftt' yourself. Last ball of the first over was very close. Ashish Nehra beat Hayden plenty of times swinging the ball away from him. He never looked good.

Ponting had more than one close one from memory and played and missed several times, three times in a row off Agarkar. I didn't say Ponting batted badly, I just said he never looked set.

Hayden on the other hand did play and miss a few, but so did everyone, it was that kind of pitch and to say he never looked good is a bit of silly statement. He was driving excellently, square drove a yorker for four, a pull shot. He had it all over Nehra and Khan early. The ball he got out on, he would smack it for four 9 out of 10 times, I remember Langer hitting Khan off exactly the same ball for four. It just wasn't Hayden's day, which had to come as he has hit three cenutries and a half century in his last five innings at the 'Gabba.

260/2 is a great result considering the amount of movement that was available to the Indian bowlers.
I guess if India had a little more luck, Australia might have been 260/4 but it was fantastic batting & a great example of how to bat even when conditions aren't favouring you.

Yeah, and I said he looked alright for a while. He did have a very good battle with Ajit Agarkar though, I saw that.

It just wasn't Hayden's day
Therefore you're kind of admitting he didn't look good. :P :P

I was referring to how Hayden got out, not how he batted. I said "The ball he got out on, he would smack it for four 9 out of 10 times"

Anyway...

For those supporting Kartik's inclusion in the Indian squad will be interested to know he picked up 2/90 (34.2) & 4/27 (23) when India A played Sri Lanka A

Also to note opener Gambhir scored 131 & Rohan Gavaskar 173.
6 wickets in a match with a 4/27 is good.

zaheer, please injure harbhajan or kumble when they bat at the nets so that kartik gets a chance.

Well done to Ch 9 for bringing in Mark Nichols as their guest commentator.

It took only 30 seconds to bring up the rugby after Mark Taylor mentioned Nichols said he promised not to mention the rugby result.

well thats another way of bringing kartik...i haven't seen kartik play but if he was good enough he would have been in the team already.

I can't believe there are now 2 TV stations who think that Mark Nicolas passes as a commentator. I'm thinking about an application myself now

indian selectors r just $hit.

kartik wasnt even picked for the series and he looked to be the best bowler in the tvs cup :!(

ramesh has looked to be comfortable in australia and still he isnt picked for the 1st test :!(

parthiv hasnt done too well behind the wicket and still he is being persisted as wicket keeper :!(

ratra, who has done well in keeping, wasnt even selected for the tvs cup and this aus tour :!(

and many more ... :!( :!( :!(
I had to laugh after reading this post, the post itself was kind of funny as Amits had no problem declaring this team fit to demolish the Australians, but NOW for some reason it isn't up to scratch. The funniest part of the post however came at the end in amits sig part of which read. " Think positive, Be optimistic"

Amits, your biggest problem is that by beleiving in the impossible dream, you just set yourself up for a bigger fall.

Good points there hypnotoad
I would think amits problem is that when he wants something to happen, he believes it will happen, not matter how difficult or improbable it is

Is that Mark Nicholas, the very very bad Ch 4 host?

a lesson indeed regarding their approach to batting.

when they came back from the rain interruption they were scoring at 6 runs per over for a while - all this on a green top in conditions ideal for swing & seam bowling!!!!!

I also think that the Indian seam attack lacked the patience to take advantage of the pitch & conditions. It's like many visiting seamers tend to do at the WACA - they see the pitch & their eyes light up and they think they have to try that bit harder to take advantage of the pitch, rather than concentrate on good line & length and let the pitch do the work for them.

IMO this is what happened to day with the Indian attack - they know they are weak in this area & wanted to take advantage of winning the toss as it is likely to be the best conditions they will have to make some statement. Instead they tried to hard & were impatient and ended up sending the wrong statement by being unable to put Australia under any concerted pressure from good bowling.

The fact that the batsman played & missed so often had as much to do with the pitch & conditions as it did to good deliveries - the Indian bowlers were unable to find the discipline to take full advantage of this.

Langer should have been out really, Nehra should consider himself unlucky.
No Langer was not out, Steve Bucknor was spot on in his decison ruling that it was a no ball.

In regards to the first days play, well done to Justin Langer on his century. Ricky Ponting provided good support with his fifty but I felt that Khans ball (which brought Pontings dismissal) enticed Ponting to play the hook shot at a ball which really was never there to be hooked.
