Bapu rao swami, I have been reading your posts for a bit now and you seem to lack any knowledge about cricket. Even Rajat is better than you. Thats a compliment Rajat :D

Anyways, yesterday the umpiring was appalling. Both Ponting and Hayden were out LBW at least 3 times each during the course of their innings but were given not out. And Gilchrist was out plumb LBW when he was on 6. And the biased aussie commentators said, "good decision by the umpire, perhaps slighly pitching outside off". LOL and at the very next moment, haweye showed that the ball pitched in line and would have gone on to hit the middle stump :duh:

Its very hard to win if your opposition has 13 players on the field.

You're blaming the commentators for not detecting whether the ball hit the batsman outside the off'? That's ridiculous!

It's hard enough for an umpire to tell when he's but a stroll away, so for a commentator to tell immediately on TV monitor is near impossible.

There is no scenario that would not have sprung talks of umpiring biased to Australia. Umpiring is largely not biased IMO... just incompetent.

...moreover, he doesn't have to face world's best bowling and fileding side. So, always(most of the time) pressure free and nobody will question him if he fails in 3-4 game.
Bappu Rao, how could u compare Lara with Ponting????..:O :O
Then he can never be the best b'coz he is in the best team  . Then it can ascertained that batsman like Viv Richards are not great b'coz they didn't face those great wi bowlers. Ponting is one of the best batsman today. He can only play against teams that are in front of him and he plays damn well against them. Being a member of the best team shouldn't be held against him

The point is not that he's not a great player. He's awesome, but you can't say that he's better than the likes of Lara and Tendulkar based on the statistics placed in front of you.

Also, for the record, I think Lara is better than Viv Richards.

Quite easily I would say.

2 of the best batsmen around at the moment.
It's ok for "at the moment", but not atall OK in a long term basis.Anyone who have been following the game for the last 10 years can easily tell LARA>>>>>>>....>>>>PONTING in every aspect. A much more realistic comparison to ponting can be with Kallis.(Kallis is more vital for the team , than Ponting for AUS).

ever heard of Stanford Univ in Northern Cali, I have taught Sanskrit there for 2 terms, I have taught Sanskrit at the Univ of Manchester for a complete year!

Then given your high profile, I am rather surprised by some of your posts. As a parttime professor I would have expected you to show some more respect in your posts. Especially lacking in the one against me a couple of pages back. Be respect-worthy as your profile indicates.

My apologies moderators.

Back to the cricket.

Just to put the 'official' seal on the end of that episode:

Pontingrulz - Watch your step. There is absolutely no place for conduct like that. There are opinions and there is abuse, and "f**king d**khead" falls firmly into the latter category.

You are skating on very thin ice at present - any further transgressions will end in some kind of ban.

As for my second prediction - well... I thought that the Indian tail would show some fight. Clearly not. Would now expect the Aussies to bat for most of tomorrow and declare with a fairly big advantage.

I haven't seen any of the Aussie innings. Can anyone confirm whether the above is a bit of an exaggeration?

Not a 'bit' of an exaggeration - a 'lot' of an exaggeration.

Possible LBW's

I can remember one from AA to Langer which looked close but a little high, one to Hayden which was most definitely worth a shout but could easily have been missing leg, one from Kumble (may have been to Hayden) which looked very close, one from Kumble to Hayden sweeping which was optimistic in the extreme

Possible Catch

Khan(?) to Ponting - everyone went up for a catch behind the wicket, ball clearly hit the top of the pad.

Out of the 4 or 5 detailed above, NONE were plumb, a couple looked 50:50 (hawk-eye indicated extreme top of leg stump on one, off bail on another) and the others were rubbish shouts.

You missed one to Ponting from Kumble, which was a whole hearted appeal, and was very close...to going off the square.

I've been following the game for more than 10 years (nearer 18), but I realise that there's no point in judging current players on what happened 3 or 4 years ago (let alone 10)

Hence I rate them just about equal, with a slight preference to Lara if pushed.

My thoughts on day two of the game.........

Terrible batting by India more so than good bowling by the Aussies......

Pathetic over rate by India, Ganguly is already on a warning from Brisbane and could face a ban from the fourth test if he doesn't improve his sides performance in that area.

Some of Kumble's lbw shouts were close, some others were ridiculous. I thought Hayden was closer to being out on a couple of others than the one he was given out on.

Terrific batting by Australia, 4+ runs an over, I believe they will look for at leasdt a 200 run lead if they can.

Some of you Indians are a little testy when things aren't going your way - some of you were very ****y after the 2nd test, now some of you seem quite touchy and defensive.

Does anyone think it is at all possible that this game will be drawn?
I don't think so. The wicket has become uneven and ball is keeping low regularly and some at normal bounce. There are cracks which are widening and we aren't even halfway yet :( . So an Australian win on the cards now.

This is the best home series Ive seen in my lifetime , really in the last 10 years only 2 sides have come to Australia & even looked like challenging us , the Kiwis in 2001/02 & the 2003/04 Indians.

Nice to finally have an interesting home series , looks like going to Sydney 1-1 so that will be a test not to miss.
