where are the moderators now? conveniently ignoring that comment?
Many are in another time zone to you, friend. I appreciate that moderating on CW has become akin to a full-time job over the last few weeks, so cut them a little slack - understand?

Exactly correct there.

Jagways you made that post about 3 minutes after Pontingrulz did how can you really expect the moderators to be here to watch every post every minute of the day.

Well its been very very kind to the GREAT MR. PONTING

HE IS THE GREATEST CRICKETER I HAVE EVER SEEN.

HE IS A LEGEND

JOKING

ALL I WANT TO SAY IS THAT HE IS THE ONLY CRICKETER I HAVE SEEN WITH A GREAT LUCK.
WHEN HIS GOOD LUCK DESERTS HIM, HE WILL BE OUT OF THE AUSTRALIAN TEAM:lol:
Yet another sensible & well informed comment

a) Ponting was not dropped once , 2 close lbw shouts , both could have been given but there was enough doubt not to.

b) Ponting has scored more runs than any other player in the world from February 2002 to the present in both forms of the game.
After this series he will be the teams captain.
Sachin Tendulkar is more likely to get dropped than Ponting (although with his scores lately thats not so incomprehensible :P).

c) Sehwag had way more luck than Ponting , dropped twice (one a sitter , one tricky) , stumped on 37 but given not out , should have been run out on 8 but Gilly fumbled , several miscues landing close to feildsman.

Some consistency please!

Back to the cricket I think Australia will want to score as many run's as possible tomorow probably be looking at at least a 150- 220 run lead.

Good opertunity for Ponting to make another double and Damian Martyn has not made a test 100 for a while so he would be very keen to make some run's given he has been striking the ball nicly.

As I see it irrespective of the result in this series RICKY PONTING IS THE WORLDS BEST CRICKET BATSMAN, A GREAT CAPTAIN AND AN EXCELLENT FIELDER!!!
Certainly in the top 5 , but even as a great fan of his I cant really say I rate him as the best right now.

IMO in terms of ability it goes-

Lara
Tendulkar
---small gap-----
Ponting
Dravid
---slightly bigger gap-----
Hayden
Vaughan
Laxman
Gibbs
Gilchrist
etc
etc

However in terms of making the runs in both forms of the game in the last 2 years there are 5 real contenders -
Lara
Ponting
Dravid
Hayden
Gibbs

Not really much seperating the top 4 of them , although IMO Brian Lara is the best batsman in the world today.

I would personaly say Ponting has as much natrual talent as any batsman including Tendulkar and Lara but he has some technical deficancys still witch Lara and Tendulkar dont have.

It's common that Ponting ether fails early or make's a big score manily because he has a few technical defficencys but once set his natrual talent more than compensates for them.

O thers like Lara, Hayden and Smith aren't all that good in ODI's , Tendulkar is mainly good at ODI's so is Gayle but Punter is excellent at both and he has so much pressure and expectations b'coz he's the captain to the worlds strongest cricketing nation (according to stats that stands third only to Lloyds XI and the BRadman invincibles)!
Say what??

Lara isn't all that good in ODI's? He's better than Ponting for longer!

Brian Lara has 8437 ODI runs @ 43.04 with 18 hundreds and 52 fifties.

Ricky Ponting has 6582 runs @ 42.19 with 15 hundreds and 34 fifties.

Also, Sachin averages over 55 in Test cricket and around 45 in ODI cricket. How exactly is he mainly good in ODI's then? Within the next two years he will be the highest Test centurion of all-time. He's just a great allround player.

A collapse of Englandesque proportions - should be interesting now. Kudos to the Aussie bowlers for fighting back.

if they can go to stumps tonight around 50 behind with 6 or 7 wickets in hand it would be ideal , put them in complete control with 3 days to go.

Neil's prediction missed by just one run yesterday
And the biggest irony of all is yours missed by just 1 run as well!

Good job you people can't predict where it matters!!!!

Rumours abound that one of our membership will be meeting the almighty one in the next week...
And rumors are correct , alas unfortunately the mighty one clearly has more pressing issues at hand at this time & has delayed that meeting until January 26 :(

Still , better late than never :)

Never the less I shall ensure he is made aware of the existence of the AAAS.

He's one of the best batsmen and an excellent fielder, but anyone could captain that ODI side and have similar records.

It is likely that we will never see how good a captain he is, since he doesn't have to try too hard to succeed.

For a good captain, look at one whose side regularly performs better than the sum of it's parts - NZ
