india 37/0 after 10 overs.

sehwag once again explodes at the top hitting 25 off just 27 balls.

the countdown has started. 193 runs left for an historic win. this will surely be 1 of the greatest indian win ever, if not the greatest.

shades of kolkata and chennai 2001 r in this match.

Amits don't get ****y.

Australia are not the world champions for nothing and they will fight tooth and nail tomorrow.

I personally think sehwag played a little riskily in the last hour -- but at least he survived. I hope he stays positive tomorrow and doesn't lose his cool.

193 runs is still a lot. But India have a great chance to atone for the hearbreak of Bridgetown 97, Chennai 99 (v Pak) and Kolkata 99 (v Pak).

India must be favourites to win now. And if they do, they fully deserve it.

What the **** was Agarkar bowling, hand grenades?? :O

It is really disappointing that nobody gives enough appreciation to Sachin's 2 magical wickets.Full credits to Sachin(for Dravid too) as he tempted the batsmen for the drive and a 70 degree turn(It is not a lofted shot , caught at the boundary).I feel those were the 2 key wickets. He has the ability to take crucial wickets and he proved that how handful his bowling is, once again.(Waugh, for surprise,4 th time out to sachin's Warne-actioned leggie.
You can't keep sachin away from action.....

If India do win tomorrow I hope it is their making as a tough international team that can consistently play well away from home. They have too much talent to consistently fail away from their backyard. Both teams have played very well and whoever wins it will be a deserved victory. Its been a great, high quality cricket match.

I say go India.

The Aussie batsmen other than Ponting have shown themselves for the spoilt-rotten, can't-stand-it-when-someone-who-they-didn't-rate-actually-does-well-against-them, condescending phillistines they are. All you have to do is look at the first-innings even. On a perfect batting deck, Langer should have gotten a hundred but was out to a shocking shot, Martyn was out to an arrogant shot, Hayden.........ugh, Katich........ugh, etc. Just how many of the second-dig outs were due to good out cricket? There's no excuse for losing 4/4 to Agarkar given that all he did was pitch the ball up on a length and let the Aussie batsmen get themselves out. That said, when he was bowling REALLY well, he didn't get any wickets so maybe there's a lesson there.

Notwithstanding that, this deck was a road. You'll hear in the press about how it was showing uneven bounce but that's rubbish. India just bowled well and AA and Sachin took advantage of the fact that the Aussie batsmen don't rate them and were looking to pummel them. WELL BOWLED AA. Simply brilliant when he wasn't taking wickets and simply McGrath-like this afternoon.

India deserve this one. No doubt. The Aussies won day 1 but it's been all India since. Dravid's innings was simply magnificent and Laxman would be disappointed to get 148 given how well he was batting.

Overall, I think India will be going to Melbourne 1-0 up unless the Aussies bowl seriously well (particularly missing a bowler). MacGill is the key on this deck. If he doesn't bowl well, it'll be over before tea.

test 2, day 4 report

Day 4, Rahul Dravid, who was 199* overnight, brought his 200 up in the very 1st ball off the day with a cover drive for 4 off McGill as India continued from their overnight score of 477/7. Kumble, gave him full support from the other end as he kept on blocking deliveries. McGill, finally struck removing Kumble out lbw. Kumble, who mainly played straight, tried to go across the line in this ball and was out. Irfan Pathan, who was the next batsman in, it was a bit too much of an ask from him. For Rahul Dravid, the field was open and he kept dropping singles and 2s. For Irfan, the field was close in and he was being given only 2-3 balls an over to play off. Off a McGill full toss, Irfans eyes lit up and he decided to step out and hit a 4, but he was out caught and bowled as McGill took a great catch. Nehra, who was the next batsman in, didnt get too much off a chance as it was Dravid, at the other end who kept the strike. Finally, Dravid was out caught at deep mid-on for 233. India, were all out for 523 conceding a small lead of 33 to the Aussies.

Aussie batting, Agarkar bowled with a lot of aggression and even sacrificed his pace to get more swing. Irfan, was wayward in his 1st over, but improved his line and length later on and even troubled the aussie batsman. Agarkar, took 2 quick wickets of Langer and Ponting to leave Aus struggling at 18/2. Langer, was out lbw and then Aggy also removed Ponting out caught by Chopra at point who took a good catch. Aus, by lunch were 21/2.

2nd session, Irfan and Agarkar continued on the good work from the 1st session. Nehra, who was the next bowler in, struck in his very 2nd ball, to remove Hayden caught by Sehwag at cover, who took a great catch diving forward. Aus, at this stage were 44/3 with a lead of 77. At this stage, Waugh and Martyn put on a useful partnership playing some sensible cricket to bring Australia right back into the match. Waugh, was the more aggressive of the 2 and Martyn gave him full support from the other end. For India, Sachin Tendulkar, who was brought in before tea, was wayward to start with, but he got the turn from the pitch as well. Although Tendulkar was taken away for a few runs, but he also took 2 useful wickets of Martyn and Waugh in the same style just before tea to bring India right back into the match as Aus were 112/5. Both of them were caught in the 1st slip by Dravid. The catch of Martyn was great as Dravid dived to his right to take the catch. At tea, Aus were 112/5 off 34.1 overs.

3rd session, Kumble and Sachin bowled well getting a bit of turn from the pitch, but Gilchrist, took them apart for runs. When Gilchrist was on 14, he stepped out to hit a turning Kumble delivery, but then the keeper Parthiv missed a relatively easy stumping chance. Gilchrist, made the Indians pay for it, as he began hitiing the bowlers all over the park. Tendulkar, was now replaced by Agarkar. With Aus on 183/5, it looked as if Aus were taking the match away from India, but then it was the unfamiliar Aussie collapse triggered by Kumble and Agarkar taking the last 5 Aussie wickets for just 13 runs to leave Aus 196 all out. Kumble started it, having Gilchrist clean bowled around his legs. Bichel, was also out clean bowled by Aggy in the very next over. Aggy, once again struck removing Katich out caught at square leg by Ashish Nehra, who took a simple catch. It was a dream spell for Aggy, as he took his first 4 wicket haul in tests. But, his dream spell was not yet over. In his sensational spell, Aggy took 4 wickets in 4 successive overs to clean up the Aussie tail.

For India, they were set a tricky target of 230 in 100 overs to win the game at 2.3 rpo. Sehwag, set the chase up as he hit a cover drive for 4 off the 1st very ball he faced. Sehwag, was aggressive and didnt allow the aussie bowlers to get on top. Sehwag, hit 25 off just 27 balls today. Chopra, gave him solid support from the other end hitting a patient 10. For tommorow, India should win the game comfortably as India need just 193 runs to win with all 10 wickets intact.

Too right. I think the stage is set for MacGill to really prove himself with Warnes return just around the corner. He has a point to prove and a mammoth opportunity to do it.

Australia will also need Katich bowling the best has ever bowled if they are to have any hope, and so I reckon we are probably headed for an Indian victory unless it all goes incredibly wrong for them tomorrow, and stranger things have happened on Day 5 of a test.

I just read your huge post Amits. It must be great to be able to write a post that detailed that reads pretty much exactly as you predicted it would happen. Well done so far.

Well done, Amits. Detailed report indeed.

Although:
1. Dravid wasn't caught anywhere near deep mid-on.
2. We'll see exactly how small 33 runs is come the end of the match! :)

Australia aren't missing a bowler. Brad Williams opened the attack.

Australia needs to bowl at the stumps more and let the pitch do the work. I reckon the key bowlers will be Andy Bichel and Steve Waugh. Yes Steve Waugh. I reckon he could do an AA, keep it on on the stumps and do a little bit off the pitch.

The first hour will tell the story.

absolutely BRILLIANT stuff by the mighty Indians! Dravid, Laxman and Agarkar have ripped apart the Australians leaving a clear path to victory in their wake. its now up to the indian top order to just play out a solid day of cricket, and it SHOULD be an easy win. however, without getting too ahead of myself, we all know what can happen if gillespie/bichel strike early tomorrow and macgill bags a few too. however...whatever the result ends up being...this has been one of the most memorable test matches i've ever had the pleasure to watch every single ball of ! (well...almost anyway). go india! and mwahhaha to all australian supporters!

mera bharat mahan!!!!!!

(oh and btw amits...u said sehwag hit a coverdrive for four off his first ball...that soo wasn't a cover drive. it was a backfoot cut shot that went through point. but yeah..hehehe..doesn't make much difference i agree..still a beautifully timed boundary!)

Surely Williams must be restricted though - he had his left arm in a goddamn sling in the dressing rooms.
I think you'll see that he won't bowl very much tomorrow.

Agree with you about Waugh though - just the type of bowler who will skid a few through, keep 'em low.
I think India will win though. :(

Why on earth would he have injured pride?
Williams has a damaged AC joint, and will most likely miss the rest of the series.....Lee took 3 wickets and scored 74 not out in the pura cup match.
I think he would be a certainty for Boxing day.
Why would he have injured pride? Well after a decent debut, he follows it up with 23-7-72-0 and (so far) 3-0-13-0

Hardly the stuff that gives pride

Your comment is a little obscure......on that basis virtually every bowler in the first innings from both sides has injured pride.......I expect Williams like most test players has a heart considerably bigger than a pea!

It's not obscure. You mentioned he was injured so I asked if it was just his pride! ;):saint: :saint:
