You just edited your post but i wouldnt underestimate the importance of rising female participation in cricket. Really helped drive youth soccer forwards.

AFL is definitely still a threat to cricket. The best of the best arent able to play two sports anymore and cricket has Been losing on that front ( i think.

The big advantage that cricket has over AFL, in my opinion, is the status of the australian cricket team as the National team. Union used to have the Wallabies as the national football team, but as that mantle began to slip so did the code.

Furthermore, cricket really doesnt have much competition for summer. The Basketball fad has worn off. CA has the perfect storm to push ahead though. Ashes, India, World Cup and Ashes again.

They might do a alot of dumb things, but those numbers speak for themselves.

Yeah I edited because on inspecting the numbers footy has plenty of female participation too (and growing, just like cricket). It's just a monolith on all fronts.

Pat Cummins may well set a new speed record in the coming years and Pattinson is a rare talent as well. Throw in Hazelwood. No way Siddle holds his spot too much longer surely

I always said Siddle would play this test, but in a side with Marsh, Watson and Lyon, what the benefit of 'running in all day' is over Haze has always been a bit beyond me. Interesting to see Bing and Warne start saying exactly the same as I type.
