Comparing Rohit with Sehwag is a bit strange. Sehwag attacks from the word go and decimates bowling attacks even if it is a 50 odd knock.

Rohit is the kind of bloke who might make an average or above-average bowler look good with his ultra defensive approach in initial stages of his innings in tests. To send him as opener is a recipe for disaster.

Rogers needs to produce regularly to keep the wolves from the door, although I'm a fan of him being in the team.

Watson saved by Clarke's injury. Great time to be a young shield batsman in form imo, there's a spot opening soon. Watson hasn't produced anything significant in ages.

S.Marsh could make himself a lock for a while with runs here. I wouldn't hate seeing SMarsh at 3 and Ferguson at 4 if Clarke's injury is long term.

Siddle out for Hazelwood. Siddle's cooked I think.

A pity about Siddle too, did all that work to get his pace back up to 140kph only to be flogged around in the UAE and lose it all again.

Rohit is talented, inconsistent and unreliable. And we have used one such talented, inconsistent and unreliable batsman at test level to great effect - Virender Sehwag.

Perhaps such a batsman batting at no. 6 hurts us, specially in 4th innings. Perhaps we should try him as a replacement of Dhawan. (like Sehwag)
That's not true at all. Rohit isn't scoring big tons or failing. He's just failing. Completely different.

Sehwag from 08 to 10 was Godlike. Rohit isn't fit to be named in the same sentence as Sehwag at test level.

Hasn't he only played a dozen tests or so?
Yes, but he's doen some really, really dumb thigs in those matches. The shots he's played to get out. Uggghhh.

I'm a supporter of his, but he's wasting his opportunities big time and it's got to the point where swapping him out for Ashwin is a good choice. Ashwin's generally done better than him with the bat.

Well then they should bat Ashwin at six and Rohit at eight, because from what I've seen, the latter's offies are better value here than the former's.

Yeah and I'm not saying Rohit should be dropped. Just don't compare him to Sehwag as if his faults are the same as Sehwag's faults. Sehwag's made up for his **** ways in other facets of his game. Right now best we're getting from Rohit is him belting the **** out of the WI at home.

Rohit's dismissal was poor ( an international batsman should not be lunging forwArd at a spinner) but he wasn't alone. I didn't think kindly of pujara's dismissal or saha's either. That said I expect the others have more credit in the bank.

I was about to also say how much India winning would have been good for the series just to spice it up. But then I remembered that India went 1-0 up in a 5 test series vs. England and still managed to make that series putrid by being disgraceful for the next 3 tests.

So yeah, even if India won this series could have still turned out into a 3-1 stinkfest.

His six was probably irresponsible as well tbh - really his role should have been to bat with an SR of 50 and score a single off every second ball he faced to put Kohli on strike.
I don't think he would've survived long enough.. if he had pulled off another 6 and then Kohli told him to hold an end maybe we won't be having this conversation..

I'd be moving smith up to 4 now, smarsh can bat at 5 and even when/if clarke returns i'd still keep smith at 4 to somewhat reduce the workload of clarke

that there's no more shield games is a blessing for a few blokes like rogers and watson, it'll keep the wolves at bay for a while. though it does mean we could end up with some **** like finch getting a cap off the back of big bash form

Will be interesting to see who captains for Australia. IMO it'd be a good opportunity for Smith to get a run while we've still got other experienced players around (Haddin, Harris etc) who may not be around post Ashes.

nah haddins captaincy was good imo so let him do it, it's the odi's where smith can get his experience

though if clarke is forced to retire then I'd give it to smith

This. Haddin did really well especially given the stakes during the final session. Also this still is very much Clarke's team and thrusting Smith doesn't seem right to me. He's still young, obviously he'll be captain in the future but now's not the right time yet I believe.
