hang on, he's had a back spasm, which he's probably had hundreds of by now, and hurt a hamstring, which he's obviously done before. He's not ruined his achilles or lost 20% of his vision

Agree with you, just depends whether he has the desire to play any more. Making a decision now would be silly but after a few weeks/months off he may just not want it any more.

Cricket, Lovely Cricket
It's important to remember that despite how close it seemed with 20 overs to go, India did not deserve to be equals at all, Australia outperformed them comprehensively from a holistic POV which is why this is so grating. Kohli (with help and luck from Vijay) single-handedly challenged fate and inevitability with his two innings and got India in a position to win if only there was a little help from his friends. Make no mistake, it was not India putting up a great fight, it was Kohli running the show from the ruins with both swords drawn. My respect for him has risen tremoundously, it was even more a show of character than one of skill and considering how immense his strokeplay was, that isn't a light compliment.

This also makes us very vulnerable for the remaining tests because we cannot expect an individual performance like that again and we really need 7-8 players to stop being passengers in the game and turn it up.
Wasn't just Kohli in the batting. In the first inning, India did make runs courtesy some 50s by other players too. We are carrying passengers but we are filling holes.

The bowling attack are our passengers basically. Rohit and Dhawan the only batsmen who didn't do well; Saha did okay for an MSD replacement. Ishant kept up some pressure but really the bowlers are non-threatening and don't stick around/score runs.

Bhuvi and Ashwin back might solve some issues. And maybe Mukund and Chand scoring some runs in Ranji to put some pressure on Dhawan. Despite Rohit's brain fades he should get more games at 6. Especially considering Raina is somehow back to being next-in-line.

Kick Rohit out of test team.
too harsh imo.. he avgs 44 in tests and made 40+ in the first innings.. true he fked up in the chase but he deserves a run in this series. he has the talent - india need to persist with him the same way they did with virat while he failed in tests in the beginning.

He will continue to maintain a decent average based on his home performances but with this technique and temperament he will always struggle in overseas conditions.

Sean Marsh has been called up to replace Clarke. Starc also added to the squad as an extra bowling option.

tbf you could say that about kohli in eng.. you can't just dump a guy like rohit - even if he dominates home and is below par away right now he's young and talented enough that ind need to persist with him.. no point destroying a career based on a few bad innings..

IMO India are better off stacking their batting with Rohit than bringing in another poor bowling option. While our batting was excellent this Test it was really only Warner, Smith and Clarke (not available for the rest of the series) . Warner and Smith are going to fail eventually and having the extra batting will help take advantage of the situation when it happens.

What a great game

Test cricket is a beautiful, unpredictable mistress
Never look forward to any Roadelaide test but it has a habit of producing great matches

Full credit to Virat for 2 brilliant innings and giving it a go - England would've lost by a lot more and bored everyone to sleep in the process

I don't know what Kohli is feeling right now. I have played two day matches where I have batted for hours to nearly win or draw a game only for it to go cruelly wrong at the last minute. We have a thread in here from time to time about what is the hardest discipline in cricket and usually fast bowling gets the nod because of how tiring it is. But spare a thought for Kohli today that knock required incredible determination and concentration.

Yuvraj on other hand failed to cement his place in test team all through his career after getting good amount of opportunities. Having seen Rohit's temperament in his 7+ years of international career, I wouldn't be comfortable relying on someone who would give away his wicket needlessly on regular basis. He might turn out to be Shane Watson of India in batting if he continues to gift his wicket.

But as you said he is young and also lucky that no.5 and 6 spots are up for grabs unlike in Yuvraj's case where he had to wait for his opportunity initially. He better make use of the opportunities being given to him now.
