Very skeptical about Zaheer's fitness. As good on paper as Ishant, Yadav, Zaheer and Ashwin looks on paper; Ishant and Zaheer simply aren't fully fit and I despise the prospect of going into the first Test with two bowlers who have fitness clouds over their heads.

Predictions -

Series Score - 2-1 to Australia.
Top runscorer - Michael Clarke
Top wicket-taker - Ishant Sharma
Misc - Ponting to retire after the last Test, Zaheer to break down, Australia to trial another spinner at some point.
Think this is very unlikely, Lyon seems to be settled into the side and trusted by his captain in a way that Hauritz and others never were.

This is such a hard series to call, not just in the final result but even in the nature of the series. Think it is very hard to pick a winner but I would not confidently predict it being a close series either given both teams strengths and perhaps more importantly weaknesses would not be surprised to see either team running away with it. If I had to guess then think we might see different tests dominated by different sides but would probably just about go for Australia at this stage.

Openers on both sides going to be really important though, obviously there is attacking potential in both of them but you can also see early wickets happening on a very regular basis. India really missed the Sehwag and Gambhir combination against England, if they have poor series it puts an awful lot of pressure on the big 3. No need to mention Australia’s recent batting woes but If Zaheer is missing for any of the tests (which I am assuming he will) then Warner and possibly later in the series Watson (never seen Cowan so no idea how he will go) could really put pressure on India's pace attack, and we saw them (admittedly largely with different players) wilt horribly against England this summer.

Think it will be like the 2009 Ashes series. Very close series with heavy defeats in the individual matches. Both teams seem to have a recent habit of getting very down on themselves during a match.

Ishant's and Zaheer's fitness problems just do not allow me to be confident over this series. Do not see an attack missing both these guys getting 20 wickets.

I'd almost rather Dinda played, in place of Zaheer and Vinay in place of Ishant. At least they're both fully fit. Vinay has a very good fitness record and a good long term FC record. Dinda is in good form and can bowl 140kph. Unfortunately, Dinda has not been taken to Australia.

I am not so confident about either of those bowlers from whatever little I have seen of them. The last time I saw Dinda, he seemed to have a jump that took away all his momentum rather than add to it. Vinay Kumar, I expect him to be canon fodder on these tracks. I do not think he is wily enough to be a PK or Zaheer.

Vinay Kumar will do well in Australia - He is actually a good test bowler but highly underestimated because of his lack of pace. Not so much suited for ODIs and T20s though.

The absolute worst that can happen is both Ishant and Zaheer break down in the same game on day 1. And it's not even that farfetched to imagine that.

Thing is I could also see someone like Zaheer performing at about 60% throughout the series due to fear of injury flaring up. Not sure what would be worse for India.

True. Though rather than holding back due to fear of an injury I just think Zaheer isn't going to be anywhere near his best this series.

If India wish to suceed in Oz which from the lookes of thing s currently doesnt seem overwhelmingly great, it would help for the openers to produce the goods. Gambhir and Sehwag both of recent have had though a though test year, and it shall be interesting to see how they approach the MCG considering their running between the wickets is still within question!

Tendulkar's poor form as well as new call ups for Kholi, Ashwin, Yadav (dont quote me on him) shall be interesting to see how they approach the game, despite thinking tendulkar can suceed here, the latter will depend on their approach and how the opposition deal with these "newbies"....... Not to mention the return of ZK will be an good to see.

Overall it seems for me personally this series has much more for india than the England series, and with some new youngsters coming bk, an inform dravid, the return of our main seamer and still the massive milestone to be made makes it a highly eager and aniticipated series. Bring on boxing day!

It's a shame for cricket in general, regarding Zaheer Khan. Over the last three years his bowling has been outstanding, however, injuries have limited his availability. I believe he is India's greatest quick. It will be interesting to see how he manages his fitness in this series. If he bowls close to 100% I think India will win. If not I believe the Aussies will claim the series.

First post, tired of being a dirty lurker  Can't seem to find too many backing an India win.

Prediction: 2-1 India (India batting should just be too strong, and Aus will implode once or twice)
Runs: Warner, Sehwag (if flat pitches and iffy bowling attacks these fearless guys will feast)
Wickets: Ashwin, Lyon (most likely to consistently chip in with wickets (and stay fit), even if they get smashed at times)

A lot of it may hinge on the type of surfaces, but all things being equal you would expect these India greats to man up with some big runs, and squeeze Aus onto the defensive. It's kind of hard to see Oz themselves piling up massive scores with the sort of form they've been in the last few years. There's something about that Warner lad though..

Both sides flawed, fragile and unpredictable in diff ways. Anyweirdthing could happen, and that's the kind of intrigue we all  about Tests.

Ps ah crap just realised there's already a kingkallis guy.. don't know if you can change your name on this thing so may have to rereg :)

I'm really looking forward to these tests. There's always something special about an India tour. I really hope our boys step up to the plate and some of the newer players make runs and take wickets.

Lets hope India win the toss and decide to bat before getting a couple terrible decisions against them in the morning session
