I know most people will disagree but Ishant Sharma getting injured is either a blessing in disguise or will have negligible impact this way or the other on the series, IMO.
I don't think one that there was any chance Sharma would have had an effective series' in Australia though he might have had a promising, aesthetically appealing one.
While I'm all for giving chances to players and everything but when one is consistently lolbad (averaging 50+) while facing decent opposition over the last two years, one must get some lessons out of it. His exploits essentially consist of him beating up on NZ in India in one test and WI in India over three tests. He also averaged 35 vs Oz in the one test he played against them last year
Apart from that he averages over fifty as a bowler in every test series he has played in since the beginning of 2010.
Ishant Sharma - Averages from the beginning of 2010
SA in India - 78.66(2 tests)
India in SL - 61.7(3 tests)
Oz in India - 35(1 test)
NZ in India - 8.2(1 test)
India in SA - 48.1(1 test)
India in WI - 16.8(3 test)
India in England - 58.1(4 tests)
WI in India - 67.4(3 tests)
Based on the above, How is Sharma likely to perform when playing an Australian line-up at home? Reckon it's obvious.
It's pretty shocking how staggeringly bad his bowling is in most series' which represent the tiniest bit of a challenge itbt. A bowling average of 48+ in 5/8 series' played consisting of 13/18 tests(72%) in that time is not int'l standard, IMO and the odd WI rout on bowling friendly wickets should not change that.
