*Official* Fifth Test (The Oval, London) 27-31 July

England would have been lucky to make 180 had Australia held their catches. And Australia could have been 350 if Khawaja and Labuschagne didn't bat like they had 2 days to survive for a draw

Is Bazball really working? If we ignore the match against Ireland it means England has only won one red ball match this year.
Bazball seems to me a total coaching hands-off thing. Everybody expresses themselves the way they feel. What exactly is Baz coaching?
And he has full confidence in the players, even when they’re clearly not performing ..eg Anderson, who’s been a passenger. Woakes and Stokes bowls faster than England’s opening (“fast”) bowlers, Anderson and Broad. And Anderson still wants to keep playing Test cricket! Haw! Haw!

Aus 150 runs below par as they bat last. And they will struggle in 2nd innings

Right now, bazball aside there is no clear no1 cricket team. Aus definitely not a clear no1 side, with the fragile batting. India got beaten easily by this same team with Boland(who England easily bazballed) in the WTC

England drew with NZ recently.

South Africa were poor in Australia and Pakistan isn't tested yet will see in Australia summer

Marnus Labuschagne was dismissed after scoring 9 runs from 82 deliveries 😯

His strike rate of 10.97 was the lowest by any top seven batter, having played a minimum of 80 balls 👀

Yeah I don’t know gonna be hard for the bowlers to bowl out England for an under par score again. Our batters probably should have gave us an 100 run lead at least. It didn’t seem as hard to bat on once they started putting some pressure on England bowlers

I think it's only fitting that Stokes declares an hour before stumps today to have a crack at the Aussies.

I'm thinking Eng can declare at 6-311 so that will give Aus 2 days to somehow get 300 (Labuschagne to bat #10)

Sachin prefered at 4 in test. You can not bat at desires batting position in india,

Sachin used to bats at 4 in his first 79 ODI till sidhu was injured in nz than captain Azheruddin told him to open the innings >> Sachin scored 49 ball 82 as oener he than open innings till the end of his career with 49 or so hundred & 18000 plus ODI runs
Okay cool, thanks.

Clarke was another who preferred not to bat at 3. It's why I'm firmly against the idea of moving Head to open, once a player gets comfortable with a position I think you should keep them there - or else it can mess with their mentality and approach (Renshaw a good example).

Only a few exceptions who can basically bat anywhere in the top-middle order without some sort of drop off.

There might not be a clear no1 team right now but it sure as hell isn't England. Can't host a home series and win 4 consecutive coin tosses, then have the opposition's most important bowler ruled out of the majority of tests and yet walk away with the best outcome being a drawn series.

Its either Australia or India, depending on where the series is being played. As it stands though, only one won the WTC final at a neutral venue so only one can claim being the best.

Tbf if the neutral venue was Colombo or Dubai India would probably win fairly comfortably. Kinda hard to say only Australia can claim to be the best when India have beaten them home and away in their last two series.

I see you are new here so here's the established take

Don't read halba posts. That guy spouts rubbish 24 x 7 and probably the worst poster in the history of CW outside the mulities

Wrong. That Australian side that played at home to India was nothing like the current one.

Almost like comparing England pre and post Bazball.
2019 one wasn't but 2021 side is not that far off. Usman and improved Head were missing

Still should have won though

Don't think the deterioration of the pitch would be an issue in the 4th dig. If anything It'll flatten out and Australia should be batting for at least an hour today

If they don't, they are boned as England would make 500 inside a full day
