Your best hope is to announce your wacky selection team before us and hope our selectors follow suit.

When they were brought both in I got the impression Tredwell was just being brought over early ahead of the ODIs as a backup whereas Borthwick was someone they felt they might give a go.

With so much talk of chopping and changing I wonder have I missed something? Why is Joe Root's place not open to question? Talk of dropping Carberry to accommodate Root as Cook's opening partner is senseless. Carberry has often batted at three so put him there and bring Bell in as Cook's partner. Never understood the lack of debate about Bell opening.

Carberry and Root could both be dropped based on lack of runs but moving Bell to open would be silly. If he's your best bat then there's a case for him at 3 but not opening. Just move him to 3 and drop Root if that's what you want.

Has Bell ever opened in FC cricket? I'm not surprised I've never heard anyone suggest he should open in tests.

Conn is now saying Faulkner for George. The pitch looks green and they might want the extra bowling. Can't see how Faulkner adds that much value with the ball in that scenario. If its green our bowlers have shown enough that they won't need an extra bowler. Now if Watsons not going to bowl then its someone to take those overs but he's unlikely to be as effective.

Rad at 6 again then.

On the plus side we swap one Tasmanian for another.

Carberry's best bet of making a significant contribution would come if he batted at 3 I think. Bell has all the attributes of an opening batsman expediency has required that he bat elsewhere. I don't think he is our best bat as he isn't as good as Pietersen, more reliable but not as good.

Tim Bresnan captain for England.

Ashley Giles, Mark Ealham, Ronnie Irani and Chris Schofield are all playing cause they can bat.

You've never understood why a career middle-order bat doesn't get talked about more as an opener.

Why?
