Whilst this has been an impressive performance from Arsenal, one can't help but think that this match has gone some distance towards confirming Uppercut's suggestion that Olympiacos are a pretty crap side.

Fair play to the Gunners - had no right to get out of that group given the position they were in. Also confirms that 75% of England's CL teams haven't been a total embarrassment.

Europa will be crucial. Can't see the English clubs taking it too seriously.

There's danger next season as well because England lose 4 more points than Italy.

For Liverpool, Man U or Tottenham it's a semi-realistic route into the CL. I mean you'd think United would make top four but would anyone be really surprised if they didn't? Can't understand why they won't take it seriously though I suspect you're right

Can you explain the second paragraph for my lazy mind

First paragraph - to be honest with the cash that's in England even reaching the Champions League isn't the be all and end all financially it would have been even 5 years ago. There's just an obscene amount of money in the Premier League, and I'm sure the clubs would rather push for 4th than try and win the Europa. Right enough I'd forgotten about the route into the CL for winning it, but that was also there last season.

Second paragraph - UEFA Country Ranking 2016

@Furball. This season the TV money for the CL is quite a lot bigger than it was last year because of BTs new deal. So yeah PL money is still probably a bigger factor, but this was a bad year to not do well in Europe.

From a Utd POV, our own coefficient has been hit by not qualifying for Europe last year, we basically need whatever points we can get from an Europa run to keep us near the top table.

Clubs from 10 different countries in the CL round of 16 sounds like a lot. No idea if it actually is or whether I'm just buying Euro spin, though.
