I think he's in the top 5 for minutes played this season, having come back from winning the Copa America, and flying back for every Chile game. And his game is SO intense and high-energy. It's not the same as Mertesacker playing every game, or even Giroud.

There's also a bad decision snowball effect- if he hadn't left out Cech in the early CL games, he probably could have afforded to rest Sanchez on Wednesday.

He's 5th for us in the PL and 2nd in the CL. Not saying he hasn't been overworked, it just kind of annoys me when people go on about it with him when Cazorla and Özil have played more, covering more ground per game (albeit it a lower intensity), and they tear into them for anything that's not perfect.

Going back to Vardy equally Van Nistelroy's 11 in 11, I just noticed that Casper Schmeichel's in goal for Leicester and wondered whether his dad was still keeping for Man Utd when RVN was knocking them in. Perhaps not the most exciting coincidence ever, but it's been a quiet day.

He's actually broken it (RVN's record sat at ten) but Schmeichel left United at the end of 98-99 and then I believe Van Nistelrooy joined after 99-2000. Could have been a year later. I know the deal was agreed at one point before a serious injury pushed it back.

Ah well. Even quieter day than I thought.

I think he was set to go after Euro 2000, failed his medical then paid for his own private medical to prove he was fit enough and Utd were talking bollocks, at which point his cruciate went. Recovered, played 10 or so games for PSV at the end of 00/01 then joined United that summer.

Yeah makes sense. I remember the deal being announced in April 2000 when I went to Maine road to watch city beat us on their way to promotion. Fair to say our clubs have continued in different directions since then. Anyhow, think that tallies up with what you're saying.

Ah Wojciech, anybody earning that much should have more self control. Heh, keep going like this and he might be back at Brentford.

Lee Carsley has got this management thing sorted, say you don't want the job, do it really well for a couple of months and then leave while everybody still loves you, can't think of anyone who has left us (well he has another month) with so much good will.

After all that stuff about it being Pep we got Smith. Very happy with the appointment though.
