For all it's changed over the last few years, it still feels like there's a lot missing from Utd's midfield. A lot of this might be down to the fact that the majority of the players in that position have barely played with each other, but it's seemed really clunky on the times I've watched this season. Probably not helped by the fact that the team doesn't seem to have a set prefered style of play, I guess, which was basically the problem I thought City had last year.

Other teams can paly well ya know, and exceed expectations.
Never said they couldn't do it, like I said in my post prior to that, I'd be happy if they did, I just want them to prove that they can do it for a whole season because they've teased this nearly every year for a decade and then not delivered when it mattered down the stretch. As I've said in basically every one of my last five posts, I'll believe it when I see it. Until then, I'm going to loudly doubt it. I'm not scared of being wrong.

This has nothing to do with becoming a spoiled new-age City fan and everything to do with having absolutely no faith in Arsenal as a club. They haven't earned it.

That is a fair point.

Remember when they were top for virtually the entire first half of the season a couple of years ago and finished with a whimper and were out of title race by February. Same could happen again, not expecting it too but given the track record of injuries in that squad it may.

Arsenal were top of the table in February 2014.

Arsenal have been edging towards being genuine contenders for a while now, the way the are often talked about you would imagine they have been the same side for 10 years but they are clearly in a different phase now.

What makes you think they're any different from the side that faded down the stretch last season? They haven't gotten noticeably better at any outfield position and have no extra depth.
Sometimes a team doesn't need to improve noticeably in any outfield position in order to improve their fortunes, tbf.

In any case Ozil, Walcott and Giroud are arguably noticeably better at present than at any other time in their Arsenal careers.

The emergence of Bellerin and Coquelin also suggests the team has more depth than at this time last year also.
