Er, not as bad as last time but they really need a CB and a CM.

United playing like they're using football as a medium to express how sorry they are for being ****.

Watching United play is usually the most grim part of my week, but I always look forward to it. What's the deal with that?

United have so many average players. Amazed they are signing Di Maria, as good of a player as he is he doesn't fill their obvious needs at CB and CM. If he comes along with Vidal + Benatia though then they become a title contender almost overnight.

Sorry, Di María doesn't fill a need at CM?
He's more of an attacking midfielder than has a good work-rate in terms of tracking back. Ideally, you want a midfielder that's more balanced like Vidal.

A United team carrying Rooney, RVP, Mata and Di Maria seems destined to collapse - unless they get more/better players around them.

Not sure if it's exactly accurate but a post from RedCafe:

Chelsea 4231

Courtois
Ivanovic-Terry-Cahil-Luis
Matic-Fabregas
Hazard-Oscar-Shurlle
Costa
Roughly 185m

United 352

De Gea
Jones-Smalling-Evans
Rafael--Fellaini-herrera-Shaw
Mata
Rooney-Hernandez

210m
Replace RVP for Hernandez and that figure increases.

I think left wing-back would suit him best of the positions we have. You look at the amount of space Young got today and think surely Di Maria would do something with it, since he can both go past players and cross very well. But I doubt Van Gaal agrees, and we have Shaw, Rojo and possibly Blind for that position anyway.

But CM suits him better than CAM, because he's better running from deep than receiving the ball high up the pitch.

Norwood's on Fire
When my brother told me yesterday about Di Maria I wondered if I would need to revise my 'won't make the top 4' prediction

But after today, I don't think one player will make enough of a difference

I think the chasm between whisky breath and ginger bollocks' abilities meant nobody really knew how good the squad was. Obviously a few key players have moved on/retired over time but now the scale of LVG's job is becoming clear.

I'll probably look really stupid like I have done in the past when I've written United off but for me, they'll do well to finish above Everton and Spurs
