Actually, when I said 1992/93 was my big regret, scrap that. It was 1999/2000. Alright, Valencia played us off the park in both group games, but we utterly destroyed Bayern Munich in Germany, yet somehow lost 1-0. Seriously, in all my years watching football, I've never seen any team go to Germany and do what we did to Bayern without getting the rewards for it. And Mols got injured that night as well, the bloke was an absolute superstar. We beat Bayern that night, as we should have, Mols doesn't get injured, and who knows how we might have fared with a bit of luck and a decent draw?

Even 15 years later I still get frustrated when van Bronckhorst hits the post. Granted, there's a couple of really poor finishes, but I still can't believe we didn't win that game.

So Oldham pulled out of signing Ched Evans, telling the media it was because of named threats made against the family of a member of staff. The police contacted the club about these threats and were told they hadn't happened, there was only "low level abuse on twitter". What the hell's going on at that club?

Apparently someone threatened to rape the daughter of a board member if they signed him. Believe it or not.

TBF Bayern should also have scored about 4 more there.

Highlight was Kahn's save at 5:20.

Right, that's what the BBC were reporting. But then:

Ched Evans: Police say they called Oldham Athletic & sponsors and were told no threats been made; a couple of "low level abuse on Twitter."

So what's going on?

It strikes me as odd that so much is being made over his 'apology', or lackthereof. Of course the bloke is not going to apologise for committing rape, he is protesting his innocence. And despite the fact that the bloke is clearly a **** of the highest order, and sounds to have behaved in some of the most scummy ways imaginable, there are clearly considerable doubts over the safety of his conviction.

Most of Bayern's good chances were the sort of chances you'll get when you're 1-0 up and the opposition is pushing on desperate for an equaliser.

van Bronckhorst's effort still has the effect of making me want to throw things in frustration, even 15 years later

and while we're on him, who the **** decided he was a left back? He was a magnificent midfielder.

Haha, having just read the first two lines of your post I was about to say this.

He was an extremely underrated midfielder, and though he had turned himself into a pretty serviceable left back by the end of his career (had some shocking performances at left back for Arsenal mind you), it always seemed like a bit of a waste to me. Was saddened that Arsenal could not find a place for him in their side, and thought it was foolish to let him leave, especially for what was basically a nominal fee.

WAG.

To mark the momentous occasion, the Sport Bible have posted some of his "best" quotes:

"Juventus have no stand out players."

"This fixture was all about the result."

"If you're quicker than the opposition full backs, chances are you're going to get past them."

"In the end, Rosicky initially did well."

"They've come here and they haven't turned up."

"You've got to make the keeper make saves if you want to score."

Sigh.

The downside for you is that you won't be hearing anyone else either, because the amount of football on ITV, and all terrestrial TV, will fall dramatically from next season due to BT having the Champions League rights.

The good news is that the English sides will see their Champions League revenue increase by over 30% as a result, which is the important thing. As long as Arsenal qualify that is, otherwise it's despicable greed.

In principle I do not really approve of the lack of football coverage on terrestrial TV - but, realistically, part of me is glad they have lost it all because the terrestrial coverage is soooo much worse than Sky (BT is pretty ordinary too tbf). I despise Lineker, Shearer, Chiles, Savage, the majority of the BBC commentators, and all of the ITV ones. Most of the other pundits are bland/crap too. Sky are just so obviously the best (and that's despite Jamie Redknapp and a few other inexpedients).

What's more, the only time I ever watch football on an actual TV is in a pub or at the house of the Snr Sledgers. When I'm in my own accomodation I watch online, so the change, from my perspective, will make no real difference (apart from putting up with Michael Owen and Ian Darke - which I concede is a pretty grim prospect).
