The going abroad point is quite a good one actually. At the World Cup how many teams other than England will have a squad of players selected entirely from their own domestic league? Not many, I shouldn't have thought.
The Italians probably will. Germany's will be overwhelmingly made up of Bundesliga players as well.

Can only assume you have a bet on City -4.5 as there's no way in hell you're losing.
Yeah just like how we were never going to lose to QPR and in all reality we **** the bed, went behind to ten men and got unbelievably lucky. I will never count them before they hatch or take a result for granted, you can do it all you like though.

If City bungle this it really will be a new low in terms of sporting chokes, to be surpassed only by Arsenal's failure to beat Hull next weekend, I suspect.

But there's a difference between "overwhelmingly" and "exclusively". Germany will have at least five or six from other leagues. England definitely won't have any.

Making myself a candidate for the Queen's award for pedantry, but Fraser Forster is at least a 50/50 shout for a spot.

I thought you got one of those awards years ago. I take it it's not like the Wisden Cricketer of the Year where you can't get more than one then?

Would obviously love City to lose, will be happy enough if they win - but please for the love of all that is good, do not draw. :(

I don't think there is such a big deal if England name 22 or 23 from their own league, seeing as though it is one of the major leagues in the world. If anything, it should be a positive.

My annual moan about the playoffs. Why have a whole seasons work resting on the result of 2 games in the space of 3 or 4 days just for tv. The whole thing is a joke, should be a week between each leg.

It's more that the quality of the coaching at junior/lower levels that provides the foundation of the league that doesn't cut it, and that the majority of English players have never been exposed to different (better) ways of doing things.

So the logical step is to introduce B teams! Hurrah!

Oh okay. Yeah, from what I've read the B teams does seem rubbish. I wasn't aware that all junior/lower level coaches in England have the same philosophies though.

Well, I'm being totally anecdotal here (though it's a point often made by journos as well), but grassroots/junior coaching of football in the UK is pervaded by kick it and run/get stuck in/ man up type coaches, and there's a stigma against players who're technically, rather than physically, gifted.

Germany had similar problems until their disastrous showing at Euro 2000 called for a review of this sort of thing, whereby they ripped out all their out of date coaching practices at grass roots levels and made a concerted level to get up to date with modern ways of doing things etc... For some reason the FA has never decided this was necessary in the UK, and instead blames the inadequacy of English players on foreigners "ruining the game" and tries to compensate for it by introducing bull**** like this B team nonsense.

Is it just me or is it a really anti-climatic last day given the positions at both ends of the table about a month ago?
