Bit of a shame about the result, but I thought given the amount of players unavailable to them Arsenal put in a decent performance today, by no means did they play at all badly.

Yeah, problem is even with our strongest XI out there (never happens but bear with me) we have no idea to defend as a team and are consistently punished at the back due to errors.

I'm not down about more or less our B team being schooled by the best team in a long time and possibly the best footballer since Maradona. More the fact that we're out of another trophy and it's down to the same old ****e.

Really hope that the past two seasons were about debt reduction and investment happens now. This summer will tell us a heap about what the club's priorities are. Lots of holes in the team and lots of passengers in the squad. We'll know if they're serious about winning anything anytime soon by what we do.

Leave me pin all my hatred onto Messi and blame it all on him. Will make it a little easier to handle. :(

What would you say is a full strength Barca - Messi then?

Awesome. Something like:

Valdes
Daniel Alves, Puyol, Milito, Abidal
Keita Toure
Xavi
Iniesta Ibrahimovic Henry

Give or take a Marquez or Yaya Toure, something like that. Alright, I can find space for Cesc, but I reckon that's about it.

A fit Van Persie and Arshavin have got a good case over Henry these days.

Maybe a space for Gallas or Vermaelen as well.

Would say that is about it to be honest but a similar thing can be said for Man utd in my opinion, Rooney and the centre backs (probably not Ferdinand on current form) the only ones I would have.

Yeah. Cliff notes: Barca are ****ing awesome.

Not really, his record is uninspiring, especially when you consider the quality of his service. For large portions of this season Barcelona have looked far better whenever he hasn't been on the pitch for one reason or another.
And if he played in England, people would be kissing his feet. But because he played in Italy, and now in Spain, people don't rate him. Out of mind, out of sight, right? If he were English, he would be a God.

Rant aside, so looking forward to the Inter - Barcelona tie. Barca will probably thump Inter, but still, anything can happen :)

Pedro pwns Henry these days. And Pique over Milito surely.
That's true, he's highly rated for a reason. I reckon in a season or two, we will know how good he is.

They should win, but I'd be surprised if they thump Inter, who will almost certainly defend more strongly than Arsenal were able to last night.

Messi is extraordinary though. I've only recently seen the goal where he reproduces Maradona's 2nd against England in 1986 - no doubt most of CW saw it ages ago - and there's no denying that we're watching a once in a generation player. That being said, I was still surprised to hear Ossie Ardiles saying he's the best ever. He might be, but I'd like to defer judgement until he's done it in a WC. And even then, he won't have to cope with defenders getting away with murder as they did against Mardona & Pele.

Watched Messi decimate Arsenal last night and can only point to the Arsenal defence for the most of it. Silly gifted the first, then there were two goals where Messi was already behind the central defenders and still onside thanks to a fullback or two being out of line, which is obviously unforgiveable - if there is a player that good walking the line with the central defenders then you can't afford to have a fullback play him onside, the fullbacks should be playing up much more. Really think Arsenal could have made a proper game of it with their best XI, but I think most Arse fans gave up a long time ago of dreaming they can get their best players on the pitch at the same time at the start of a game, let alone the end of it. Looks like we won't have that privilege tonight, either.

Nervous about tonight's match already.

Apologies for being anal, but I think you meant on-side :)

As for tonight, I think you're right to be nervous. The media will under-rate Bayern because they're not Barcalona, but they're good enough to beat an under-par Man Utd imo.

My apologies, you are correct, sir. You'll have to excuse me: I'm an idiot.

EDIT: I'm not heavily worried about being beaten, even. Maybe a draw, maybe a loss that works out in their favour... we have to win 1-0 or win by two goals to go through, so basically the odds aren't in our favour (despite the odds, oddly enough, being in our favour according to the bookies, which is pretty weird).

I'm pretty nervous about tonight myself, but backing United to go through nontheless. Trying to look at the positives - Bayern were very good last week and we were beyond awful and yet their advantage is still a slender one. Even with Robben back I'm not sure Bayern will be any better than they were in the first leg, and I simply can't believe that United will play so poorly three games in a row (I didn't see the Chelsea match but all reports seem to indicate we were utter pants). It won't be easy, but I've got faith that Fergie will have the boys well, well up for this one and we'll get the job done.

Please see my website www.settingselfupfordisappointment.co.uk for further thoughts on tonight's action.
