Yeah, best thing about getting a laptop, if there's sport I want to watch, "well why don't you chat to your friends on facebook" if I feel like CWing, "oh look love, CSI is on"

Will probs watch one of the games tomorrow. Them being on ITV always puts me off as well, for some reason.

Yeah AWTA, would rather watch on Sky, was watching Barcelona vs Sporting earlier but got fed up with that as well, early rounds of the champions league are usually pretty dull tbh, only really gets interesting when teams are under the cosh about 4 games in, or at the knockout stages. That said, when I have a specific interest in a team (Arsenal) I'll watch their matches.

Arsenal must have played without England players in the team at some point in the last few seasons.

Is there a rule this season about homegrown players? Heard that Liverpool couldn't register Hyypia because of it.

The rules are pretty much a load of crap tbh, Fabregas counts as a home grown player as far as the UEFA guidlines are concerned.

Yeah, well it's against EU Law to say that the players have to be from that country, but obviously they can fit the homegrown stuff nicely into the rules. TBH Liverpool & Arsenal especially bring a lot of foreigners through the ranks these days, don't think this ruling will have the effect that UEFA desire.

Yes, to qualify as a home grown player you have to have trained professionally within whatever country for 2 years before your 18th birthday, so the likes of Fabregas, Bendtner etc... all count as homegrown.

The consequence so far appears to be that the big clubs will bring foreign kids over earlier. Which in ways is even more frightening, as the kids aren't really old enough to make the decision to move themselves (not that footballers usually display huge maturity in their off-field decisions anyway, but the ethical bit gets more troubling)

Yup, but I said this year's CL, when they at least have Walcott. :p

And they do have some Romanians in the squad - three of them played today - it's just that they're not that good (and, for all I know, the Romania national coach doesn't venture into the hinterlands to watch Cluj play)

Yeah, completely agree with this

I know I wasn't rebutting you, more pondering aloud
