Norwood's on Fire
Huge, huge day for me. Unfortunately I can't watch the game here in sodding France. Gonna have to make do with dodgy Five Live reception. Play Up Pompey!
If I see the game, I'll give you my take. Likely to flick between that and Arse V Scouse

How credible are the reports of a player taking a bribe of £50,000 to fix matches?
Without knowing any of the actual circumstances, instinctively I'd say they aren't incredible. I'd guess the allegations must relate to either quite a while back or a player who used to be a Prem performer and whose bast days are behind him tho. Even for the most mediocre Prem player £50k is two months' salary tops.

About ten years back there were a few obvious betting stings in the Prem; floodlights "failed" in two or three games & then one team (Wimbledon from memory) passed the ball straight out from kick-off because one of their number had a spread-bet on the time of the first throw-in. Allegedly.

 nice safety net

Heard that it used to happen quite a lot actually, not just once

Aye, the 1st throw in one was a banker for all players. They get kick off they can dictate it to be in the 1st few seconds. Other team gets kick off and their bent player sticks it out. Main reason why footballers are now banned from betting on matches involving themselves. Well, that and ole Bruce's bonus's he picked up (which is more than he did with the ball)

Allegedly ;)

I think it was West Ham, John Moncur, if I remember rightly.

Eight changes for the scousers. Walcott and Hoyte starts for le arse. Two Englishmen, quelle suprise:unsure:

It was mentioned in today's Mirror, funnily enough. They reckon Kitson for the Hammers, so you were closer than me (link).

West Ham Throw-INS: Bookies cried foul after unusually heavy betting on the time of the first throw-in during the Manchester United v West Ham Premiership clash in 1997. Hammer Paul Kitson hit a long ball into touch straight from the kick-off.

In my mind's eye I can still picture Vincent Jones hoofing the ball straight out after a kick-off tho, but I might have got it mixed up with him booting some punter after about 2 seconds as the years go by.

IIRC that United - West Ham clash was the last game of the 1997 season, neither side was playing for anything, left it open to some such activity.

Arsenal's football is so pointless at times against decent sides, they have the ball for ages but do nothing with it, which allows good sides to regroup. Eboue has also been once more proving his all-round rubbishness again.

In all fairness to Crouch, he took it very well.

We're looking a very tired side just now. The injuries we've had have gutted us at a crucial time and meant we're too reliant on Cesc who, for all his brilliance, is only a kid himself.

Crouch scuffed his shot in, by the way, but his first touch was good. Unlike Hleb's at the end there.

Matt Pitt very happy now surely, dull dull game but as Brumby said, semis usually are, well done Portsmouth.

Hmm, the Arse need rid of Eboue and Bendtner and two quality forwards in, imho. Should get about 12 mill for those two. Shame, enjoyed watching them this season and they're preferable to the other two.

My lots season could be over if we don't get a result this evening. Not confident :(
