Thoughts from the English readers of this thread on Stewart Downing? He's one player in the English national time I rarely hear or read about...
Hmm, cheater, diver, utterly lacking in technical ability, one dimensional. I'm not a fan, tbh.

Yeah in all fairness Everton weren't too shokcing actually, though you should still never miss a penalty as a highly paid professional.
In theory, I suppose that if players weren't susceptible to fear or nerves at all, they could stick a penalty away 19 times in 20, even against the world's best penalty stopper.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) the human conscience exists and the mayhem begins.

Le Tissier did get lucky with some of his penalties, in particular I remember one against Spurs in the FA Cup one year, however there is no denying he was probably the best penalty taker in England at the time. Don't know Cantona's record, I can only remember him missing one, however I may be forgetting one or two and I don't think he took as many.

He didn't miss a penalty for 6 seasons at United and I believe he missed the first one back after his ban. Against Liverpool I think and he put it past the left hand post and everyone was shocked.

Loved King Eric tbh:

Except he was only with us for four and a half seasons. ;)

To my knowledge his record for us in competitive matches was 18 out of 20. He got his first 16 in a row, but missed his 17th and 19th, both in his final season with the club in 96/97. I don't think either of them was against Liverpool though - his first game back after the ban was indeed against them, but he famously scored the penalty that day which salvaged us a 2-2 draw.

****ing hell, only remotely good part of the draw is that Arsenal will knock the Scouse bastards out, was hoping they'd draw an English side.

While I want to reserve judgement on the semis until after I've seen how sides have tackled the quarters, my first reaction is that we'll beat Roma but lose to Barcelona in the semis. I really, really hope I'm wrong.

EDIT: The draw for Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea and the timing of their fixtures does make United strong favourites for the Premiership now IMO, though.
