The way his career has panned out I think it's fair to say we saw the best of him at Arsenal. IIRC yer Toffees let him go on a free. Petit>>>Hughes & that's what it boiled down to.
Wenger plays Englishmen if they're good enough; he sold two international-class left-backs (Van Bronckhorst & Silvinho) on the strength of Cashley being the real deal. Shame he's such a perfidious little (non-) poove. Allegedly.
Club captain and loyal to us actually.BoyBrumby said:Ask marc; he was at Cov the last I heard.
Yes, because with the likes of Keown, Adams, Campbell all around, he was really going to get a lot of chances wasn't he?Goughy said:How about Upson as another example?
Same deal really; not as good as the incumbents & left to further his career.Goughy said:How about Upson as another example?
Hardly a diatribe; I don't think anyone would seriously argue he was a better player than Petit, would they?marc71178 said:Club captain and loyal to us actually.
Gave him a chance when Everton released him (he was very unlucky with injuries to be fair to him, but why let facts ruin a diatribe against someone?)
Think he was Reid's one good bit of business, but we only offered him a one year deal when he signed.
He was very good in that season, and turned down other bigger clubs to resign for us as we'd given him the chance to resurrect his career. Not playing as well as he was though, but he's more at his level than in the Premiership.
We played him in the middle; we had Overmars on the left-wing at the time so he never going to get a look in there.steds said:Wasn't Petit a centre midfielder and Hughes more a left side player, though? I remember him playing left wing for Everton.
they most certainly were not, towards the end of the 97/98 season he was a regular and put in a great deal of good performances, similar can be said of the beginning of the 98/99 season, shame he tailed off.As for Hughes most of his appearances were as a substitute.
So he was trying to get a place behind Vieira and Petit?BoyBrumby said:We played him in the middle; we had Overmars on the left-wing at the time so he never going to get a look in there.
Pretty much, although we also had Gilles Grimandi around at the same time too.Jamee999 said:So he was trying to get a place behind Vieira and Petit?
Unfortunately not. My team's prospects this season look rather more bleak.superkingdave said:Spurs at a guess
No, Rovers, don't ask.superkingdave said:Charlton?
Blackburn? Hardly cause for reaching for the hemlock just yet. You've made some interesting signings in the close season. McCarthy could be a steal.TT Boy said:No, Rovers, don't ask.
Jeffers, Roberts and McCarthy interesting but not particularly exciting signings for a fan. Jeffers has done **** all for the past three years, Roberts will work hard no doubt but is nothing more than a Championship player and McCarthy yeah he has all the right qualities, pace, strength, good in the air yet his record and temperament suggest that he will not amount too much and Porto for the best part of two years have been wanting to get rid. Blackburn also need to address the midfield situation where Tugay is not getting any younger, we have no one who can actually pass other than Tugay, Pedersen is a fantastic striker of the ball and scores great goals yet his contribution in terms of supply, is non existent. I'm very concerned at the moment and I was throughout last season even though are position in the league would suggest otherwise.BoyBrumby said:Blackburn?
