says on bbc sport that hes going to have to appologise to the team.

thats nearly as bad as the initiation chelsea have where the new player has to sing a song of there choice infront of the group

And how do you feel on it?

He will be great at centre back, but will be become a problem if he has to play at left back, or even right back. Although I guess all you will need is another left back.

Think he'd be a top signing.

It's true what you say tho, all reports suggest that he sees no future for himself at full-back. We'd probably be looking to play him there too as it looks very much like we're going to be starting the season with Flamini at left-back.

No young prospects coming up through the youth ranks to fit into that position? The first names that sprung into my head were Gilbert and Hoyte, but I think they are more right and centre backs (although I could be wrong about Gilbert though in what position he plays).

With Gallas, is it looking as though Chelsea will buy Cole and give Gallas in return? Or is it the other way around?

In other transfer news Wigan sign Educador attacking midfielder Luis Valencia on loan from Villarreal - which I guess is a major coup for them. Manchester United close in Marcos Senna also from Villarreal, Valencia offer cash plus Roberto Ayala for Cristiano Ronaldo (would be good I guess depending on how much money was given), and Newcastle join Inter and Vanecia in the race to sign Empoli striker Francesco Tavano. Tavano had a good season with Empoli and attracted the interest of a certain Madrid club earlier this year, has made no secret to join a bigger club, and would fit the Newcastle striker void well (he prefers Inter, but his wife would like to him to join Fiorentina if the chance came, and so he would if he there was an offer because we all know the players missus gets her way in which club her man plays for).

gilbert is very much a right back, and looked impressive in a few run outs earlier this year before getting injured against west ham, a spell on loan with cardiff this year should do him good.

As for gallas, i would have thought arsenal should offer something like ashley cole and somwhere in the region of £6m and upwards for gallas and bridge, those would be two good signings, probably the best players available to arsenal anyway, gallas would be a great signing certainly.

Amsterdam tournament has been a bit tasty, Rooney and Scholes sent off in Man Utd’s 3-1 win against Porto but the Ajax and Inter game has had some real needle. Walter Samuel attempting to land some hefty blows, Ken Perez leading with his forearm into Samuel’s head, hothead Columbian Ivan Cordoba attempting to floor anyone who gives him any ****. Real good stuff, none of this friendly ******** in these games.

In other news, Lucas Neill will almost certaintly sign for Tottenham now they have ended their interest in Pascal Chimbonda and Neill only has a year left on his contract, so therefore Blackburn will want to cash in on him. Spurs goalkeeper Martin Fulop is not a happy man after being not allowed to join Coventry, and would still like to join then next summer if they want him (and I think they would?) as his contract expires then.

Martin O'Neill is the new manager of Aston Villa, but it will be a mystrey who will be owning the club with several offers coming in. Good appiontment, especially with the wonders he achieved with Leicester (which TBF was probably as far as they ever were going to go).

He's far too good for them. Why isn't he the new England manager? Could somebody tell me?

I'm worried about McLaren in that I think he will go with the same mentalitly with Middlesborough, and if England find themsleves a goal or so down, he will panic and suddenly throw on two or three more strikers and try and pull off a last minute miracle. This might work against your weaker teams, or even one or twice, but I don't think it will work against the big teams.

Because he refused to play David Beckham no matter what and thus the FA refused to sacrifice the cash Beckham produced as captain.

So O'Neill gave 'em the bird and Beckham promptly resigned after the WC.

FWIW, I think Saha will show just how good he is this season without the horse getting in the way. Nothing to do with the fact he's in my Fantasy team of course. ;)

We'll see how Martin O'Neil does, he's vastly overrared for mine, plays horrible football and I'm glad he didn't get the England job, don't like Villa either.

Would love him, and the way it looks with Steele in for a season's loan (thanks Taggart) we'll want a new keeper come 2007/08.

Because the committee to select the new man was too big so every decent candidate (bar Huddink who they stupidly wanted to interview) had some not wanting him.

Hence we end up with the compromise candidate, a mediocre man with no real club success, but at least he's English so the LMA etc will be happy (!)

He did well with Leicester. Won with Celtic (although Rangers were dire). I think we'd be a lot more confident of our national team manager if it was O'Neill instead of McLaren.
Only obvious down side of O'Neill being the manager is that Heskey might have played for England again

What's the old expression: a camel is a horse designed by a committee? :p
