Yeah this argument about Giggs and Fletcher is a bit nonsensical, however the main point still stands IMO.
As i understood it the technicalities are:Barney Rubble said:Hell, no. On both counts.
EDIT: Well, actually, no, it is technically part of the British Isles, but not of Great Britain.
Last thing i'd want to see is a quota system limiting the number of foreigners, because they have played a major influence in changing the English game to a much more watchable one.roseboy64 said:Ok well ignoring O' Shea Man Utd is more British than Arsenal. Even in terms of managers that's the case. There's nothing wrong with having foreigners but since it's the English Premeir League you'd like to see at least a couple Englishmen being really involved and not just being squad players.
The British Isles are a group of islands off the northwest coast of continental Europe consisting of Great Britain, Ireland, and a number of smaller surrounding islands and islets. The term British Isles is often misunderstood, and is sometimes considered controversial. The term is less common in Ireland than in Great Britain.Matteh said:As i understood it the technicalities are:
England = England
Britain = England + Wales
Great Britain = England + Wales + Scotland
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland = England + Wales + Scotland + NI
The Irish Irish think of themselves as Irish funnily enough.
Why then do all the top teams have at least one influential English player?BTW I wasn't advocating for a quota system but some level of balance is required.Matteh said:Last thing i'd want to see is a quota system limiting the number of foreigners, because they have played a major influence in changing the English game to a much more watchable one.
Maybe the reason it happens is there just simply isn't enough top level English players?
If the FA put in a quota system wouldn't the clubs just run straight to the European Union the second it is announced?Matteh said:Last thing i'd want to see is a quota system limiting the number of foreigners, because they have played a major influence in changing the English game to a much more watchable one.

seeing as you are under the illusion that you are from australia, evidently you don't.ah i see we know our Geography well..
Arsenal don't have one influential english player, to suggest that Theo Walcott or Justin Hoyte are a huge influence on the Arsenal side is rather naive.Why then do all the top teams have at least one influential English player?BTW I wasn't advocating for a quota system but some level of balance is required.
Feel the burn.sledger said:seeing as you are under the illusion that you are from australia, evidently you don't.
Out of 11 players on the team maybe 1-3 are top English players, which is only a quarter of the team.roseboy64 said:Why then do all the top teams have at least one influential English player?BTW I wasn't advocating for a quota system but some level of balance is required.
I said top teams. Where does Arsenal fit into that?sledger said:Arsenal don't have one influential english player, to suggest that Theo Walcott or Justin Hoyte are a huge influence on the Arsenal side is rather naive.
Crespo. That's beside the point though because Chelsea have Terry and Lampard. I'm sure you would rather have Terry in defence than Boulharouz if you were a Chelsea fan.Matteh said:Out of 11 players on the team maybe 1-3 are top English players, which is only a quarter of the team.
Would you rather play the likes of Drogba, Crespo, Hasselbaink or the mighty Carlton Cole? (example is a couple years old, but was an instance of an English player not being up to the class to break through)
Reyes and Jeffers are in the same category for me. Saying that I'd take Henry.sledger said:Henry, Bergkamp, Wiltord, Reyes or Francis Jeffers is another.
haha this is all so funny i must say..sledger said:seeing as you are under the illusion that you are from australia, evidently you don't.
Won a Premiership more recently than certain Manchester-based franchises one could name.roseboy64 said:I said top teams. Where does Arsenal fit into that?
