He's still the 2nd best option though.
Thats debatable ATM, Barry has a strong claim there as well.

marc71178 said:
He started him what once or twice, and he was capable but nothing better. The injury is irrelevant to the lack of a solution to the then problem

How is it irrelevant if he hadn't been injured in that positio itn could have been his today.

But i admit suggest Bridge to play left-mifield probably isn't the best option but he is a top bloke/player stuggling for well deserved 1st team football. Just looking at an option for man.

marc71178 said:
A centre midfielder, so getting closer to the requirement, but still miles away from the squad, let alone the team...
Barry playes left-midfield for Villa

marc71178 said:
He's not in the squad because better options exist.

If better squad options exist then it follows that better starting options exise - when will you learn that?

WTF?, better options do not exist, Carrick big fan and all i'm of him is not the BEST LIKE FOR LIKE REPLACEMENT for Hargreaves, Parker clearly is right now & deserves a call up for England's next internationals.

marc71178 said:
So what exactly has he done to put him ahead of the other more defensive midfielders that McLerikkson has picked then?

What does Sven selections have to do with it anymore?. Have you not seen him for Newcastle this season, the man has been the most impressive English midfielder to date. Again he may not have the superb passing ability of Carrick but he is more dynamic almost as good as Hargreaves at his best.

marc71178 said:
Please tell me how SWP is a better option than Beckham? What does he add to the squad that Lennon doesn't already have?

I'm not saying SWP is better than Becks, i'm just saying i don't mind him being giving a shot. But yes his selection at the moment is a bit useless since Lennon is already in as Stevie G's back-up.

marc71178 said:
Move him into the middle and remove his best trait - interesting option that..

Your right, he probably wont be very effective in the centre of the park these days, he is not the Beckham of post 2002 anymore.

marc71178 said:
So what changes has he made then, aside from dropping Beckham?

Performances have been just as clueless with wins more owing to opposition weaknesses than our play.
Excessive subs still used.
Players played out of position (but since you rate Bridge on left wing you'll probably not call that a problem)
Attempts to hold on to a 1-0 against a minnow by hoofing it up to a lone striker.

All the critcisms of Eriksson...
He is trying to establish a club like atmosphere with in the team which is good. Unlike Sven in his games so far we see him out on the touchline shouting out instructions.

I dont know what you want from the man, he just started got wins againts minnows yes, England were convincing in all except the Macedonia game for me. My memory must be bad since i don't remember any excessive or bad subs being done, plus who played out of position in those games?

But anyway your still a harsh critic yo give him some time before you say he is a garbage manager or whatever.

not exactly a surprising result imo.
well Munich scored two late goals which will be crucial in the latter part of the group matches. Was expecting some solid stuff from Inter after some of those big signing this season.

should have learned long ago that you can never expect them to perform to their potential, ever.

Barry, yet another midfielder who is nowhere near the reckoning - if you had your way there'd be about 25 midfielders in every squad.

Based on what exactly? Certainly not his performances.

Parker has played 1 game I think and barely (if ever) been called up apart from that.

Yet you still keep saying he's the best thing since sliced bread.

Since when?

He never left his seat in either game at OT (except to turn up late for the second half and milk the crowd)

And I suppose Eriksson never tried to create a club-like atmosphere then? 8-)

If you think England were convincing against Greece you really are blinkered - that was 0-0 at best without the woeful Greek first half defending.

He used 6 subs - that's a bit excessive for the "club atmosphere" and also didn't get any criticism, unlike the previous manager.

As for out of position, he was thinking of Richardson at left back, but ended up playing him up front.

Likewise Lennon.

Why give him time?

He had plenty of time and money at Middlesbrough and did absolutely sod all in real terms.

There were top pedigree managers around but the media's anti-foreigner campaign meant we've ended up with a poor 4th or 5th rate man.

Classic. Absolute classic.

The whole blinkered bit, then saying it was 0-0 at best if you ignore the 4 goals in the first half...

Absolutely hilarious.

Yes, all 4 goals coming from pathetic Greek defending against half chances.

Had Greece defended properly, none of them would've been goals.

Hence 0-0 at best.

so the occasions he played for southampton and england in that position as marc has already mentioned dont count as being professional?
Never heard of nor seen Bridge playing in midfield. Have seen Barry play there though. That being said, they really shouldn't even have to be considered as options. Pretty much due to Cole's injury, Downing's ineffectiveness and Richardson fast moving from a player with potential to a dud.

Welcome to my world.

Personally I would rather have brought Luca Toni instead for the same money and would have easily have given them Cordoba, Pizzarro, Cruz or Recoba in return if they wanted either one of them.

England would never have took a wicket in the Ashes, all 89 wickets coming from pathetic Australian shots and calling.

Had Australia batted properly and called properly, none of them would have been wickets.

Hence 600-0 at best.

Nigel Reo-Coker is the closest thing England have to Hargreaves IMO. I fully expect him to be an English regular soon and show his worth at international level.

Barry on the left is worth a shot IMO, obviously it's Cole by miles when fit but Downing's had his chances.

As for Inter, they were woeful. On paper a great team but they never deliver, it's same old same old for them. Also no surprise to see Valencia get up, they've proven themselves to be quality this season. Alot of top off-season buys.

UEFA Cup showed up for what it is yet again by the Palermo coach this time. Although you'd think it's an attractive competition for them, think again.

"Zamparini, whose club currently occupy third spot in Serie A, is adamant league form should be the top priority and claims European football is little more than a distraction.

He said: "I really hope West Ham throw us out of the UEFA Cup on Thursday."

"Because otherwise we will lose in Verona against Chievo on Sunday."

"This squad cannot compete on two fronts and, quite frankly, I don't know what to do with the UEFA Cup - I prefer Serie A.""

Well I think it would be an aim for them as it no certainty they will stay as high as they are now, a bit like Charlton IMO, usually great starters but then fall away badly.

Dont understand why they bought Ibrahimovic, whenever i have seen him he has been totaly inept. Maybe he is good in seria A but i really cant see how.

Interesting now that Marc's the one who's not in favour of the manager and SP's all for him. Hmm.....
yes the petty, pathetic squabiling continues. Marc now has the irational hatred of the manager. The sort of debate i see on this forum strengthens my indiference for international football in between major tournaments.

Nah fair call. He seemed to have a brilliant touch and sensational ball control at Ajax but since the move to Juve and Inter he's looked totally inept for both clubs + Sweden. Honestly his first touch is shocking and he just makes so many poor decisions when he has the ball. He still managed to bang a few in for Juve but he really hasn't lived up to the hype. He seemed a forward who could create goals but at Juve he only managed to finish a few because of the amount of chances they created. He'll struggle at Inter, no two ways about it. Adriano's a far better player and Crespo's done it all before.

Awful first touch... ;)

Haven't seen that much of him, so can't really comment seriously. He's reet stupid, though. (Look, I'm a footballer, I can party whenever I like even though it's the night before a game because I'm so famous...)

Wow... that commentator got a bit excited there. I saw that live at some ridiculous time in the morning. Look, he still has a brilliant streak about him. But more often than not he's just simply poor. At Ajax he seemed to deliver more often than not, in the Serie A, CL and Internationals he seems to get found wanting more often than not.

Here's a bit of Ajax brilliance though. Interesting to note his shocking first touch :D
