It was a pretty poor perfomrance but they won and thats the main thing , just hope for a Holland win tonight. They arrent playing well everyone knows that but when it comes to the World cup these games will be a distant memory, i really dont think the performance matters

I honestly thought Beckham was going to cry poor lad!!! Another lacklustre performance for the team there, but i suppose a win is a win. I think to remedy this all the players respective managers should patrol the touch line and try to convince them that this is in fact a league game.......PY said:

What a load of rubbish. Clearly England arent playing well at the moment but as i have already said i think that irelivent when they get to the world cup. The fact is England will be at the world cup. We were seriously poor today, all Crouch did was get in the way, all Young did was kick it out of play, all Owen did was lose the ball, Gerrard did nothing at all. It was never a sending off but the tactical changes Eriksson made afterwards were bizarre - Owen at the head of a diamond in a 4-4-1 formation????? What the hell??

A shapeless England team without passion has no chance of winning anything no matter how good the individuals are. It's not simply the fact that they're playing badly, they don't know what they're doing half the time, they've got no shape, they let the opposition play however they like.Pothas said:

This sort of inept performance is nothing new for a qualifying match the fact is they have to get it out the way and it i will have no bearing on their performance in the summer. TBH kendall, we see all of these players playing much better week in week out for their clubs against better players - the managers job is to get the best out of the players available, Sven just seems to get the worst out of them.Pothas said:

England didn't play well in euro 2004 because they went for all out defense once they went 1-0 up. England should have cruised past Portugal - who were poor, but again England did their all out defense and eventually the inevitable happened. If England had managed to draw today they could only blame themselves, they should have had the game won long before Beckham got sent off - these sort of things happen when you fanny about. Regardless whilst most of the other big nations sacked their fairly low paid managers (virtually all were on less than £1 million a year) after their team had flopped in Euro 2004, England for some reason held onto their highly paid idiot.Pothas said:

It was actually completely unintentional! It's all true though.
And Pothas, the reason Greece won Euro 2004 was not blind luck, as with Liverpool's CL victory - they both had fantastic managers, who knew how to get the best out of their players. England do not. You cannot win international tournaments without a) a squad of players who naturally gel (e.g. Brazil) or an outstanding manager who can fit contrasting players together (e.g. Otto Rehhagel). England have neither.
