Surely the only people buy The Sun is for the Page 3 girl? I sinned by buying a copy just to bring it back to show all the guys at work - I never read it though.

Anyway back on topic I was thinking about Fabio Capello as the next manager, although the FA will need him to quit or pay compensation to Juve and it would be dependent if he would be willing to leave Juve now one year from his contract.

His record is proven having won Scudetti with Juve, Milan, Roma and La Liga with Real Madrid, although is probably is left field.

They've all had the most shaming 8-)
Only one on that list i'd want anywhere near managing England again is Venables really.
I'd like Taylor

Good call.

I bet the press would love the turnip in charge too. He's never short of a word or two. Like his comments about the FA being amateurish.

We don't care what you think Graham and it's a bit rich you're calling someone amateurish. :p

Well, I've got more important fish to fry today (hark at me, talking Norwegian).

The new owners are being installed at Pride Park at 11.00, and I'm heading off down there in a few minutes for the press conference.

What a beautiful day, and I love you all

(in a Platonic way, of course)

(except Volty)

And why exactly would you want him back?
Robson is basically past it - not as good a manager as he was in 90
Taylor is pretty much a joke
Hoddle is basically a fairly average manager
Keegan seems to have his moments at clubs, but never quite managed to succeed

Venables - off the top of my head about 25 games in charge, won half of them, drew the other half and lost once - to Brasil in the final of the Umbro Trophy. Pretty good record. But that was just if you could only choose one of the 5 i mentioned before.

That's odd, I was having this discussion with a group of lads at the pub the other night and we all said Venables would be welcomed back into the fold if he wasn't out of touch (i.e. managing a club).

We then commented how it may be tainted by the fact that Euro '96 was probably the only time in our living memory when England performed in a way that was attractive, attacking and yet solid. And it came off, I can't help but think if we hadn't had penalty phobia we'd have won that competition.

Throw in the fact that he helped us beat the Jocks and I say roll out the red carpet. :D

Just listening to it online now. Very encouraging. Looking forward MoN would be first my choice as manager (might be too optimistic there with the England job wide open again, plus he's probably waiting for Man Utd) Keegan would be second (again, this kind of job may not be his cup of tea anymore), Westley has done well of course so he's in the frame. Anyhoo I'm just happy at where the club finds itself today really, thankyou Co-Op, Gadsby, Amot, Horton et al.

Well we were pish against Switzerland, poor against Scotland, outplayed by Spain ( won despite the Phobia), lost to Germany, but the Holland match was good:unsure:

Still the utterly over-rated Salford red devils are losing, which always makes me happy, Joe Cole what a player:)

They play tomorrow, and what do they have to do with Joe Cole?

**** Rooney stretchered off :-O
I was just thinking after about 20 minutes of the match "Six English internationals playing, and looking at these tackles, I wonder if one of them forces another out of the World Cup..."

Just got back in time to see England get knocked out of the world cup - put a slight damper on an otherwise perfect day.

I got to Pride Park just after half past ten and there was a small group assembling outside the main entrance. One nice touch was all the signs pasted to the windows saying "Under New Management".

Before the press conference started, Peter Gadsby came out and shook the hand of every fan there - I said just two words - "Thank You" - but if I had said a million, it wouldn't have carried any more weight as far as my gratitude to him and the "League of Gentlemen" (and a Lady, I can reveal - Jill Marples) is concerned.

We listened to Mr Gadsby's statement and the Q&A session with the press with increasing incredulity as the full extent of the debt (that they know of so far) was revealed - the previous incumbents of the boardroom had lied and lied again throught their teeth about how they had "righted the ship".

Finally, I left and walked into town to see the guys running the RamsTrust stall at the Eagle Centre market. Everyone I have spoken to has a glint in their eye, a spring in their step and a renewed air of optimism about them - oh no, that's just me. The sky is blue, the sun is shining and I found a £2 coin.

:) Happy days (until the next time, as is our wont, it wouldn't be the Rams without the wheels falling off every decade or so). Latest on Rooney is "not as bad as first feared".

Saw Rooney walk onto the coach on sky sports, so not as bad as first looked, if its minor, it could be a plus, give him an extended rest before the Cup:)

Well I'd suggest one can walk/limp with a fractured metatarsal or variant, so it still could be fairly serious. Fingers crossed anyway, the World Cup will be the lesser without him, objectively or otherwise.
