I'd debate how "world class" he actually was...BoyBrumby said:Only world class player O'Neill has ever had was Larsson & he seemed to go ok @ Celtic.
No, his captain said that he didn't think he was experienced enough for the role just yet.TT Boy said:Even his captain does not rate him so highly.
He was/is pretty good though.marc71178 said:I'd debate how "world class" he actually was...
That's pretty harsh.marc71178 said:For all the talk about Big Phil not being able to speak English.
If the captain can't, why should the coach?

his international record is good as wellmarc71178 said:Because he scored goals in Scotland?!
So have the likes of Sutton, Hartson, even 36 year old Dion Dublin.
Although I don't think any members in the England team speak Portugese so that might be a problem and if he speaks any Spanish he will have Beckham or if in the one and 25 million chance that he is fit Jonathan Woodgate is in the team then he will have them to translateBarney Rubble said:Yeah, it really has. I'm made up about this - proven class manager, really hope he takes the job.

Scaly would have apoplexy if that was Henrymarc71178 said:A goal ever 2 and a half games?
Good, but nowhere near top drawer.
Well, fair enough. That was exactly the point I was making about O'Neill, even if Larsson isn't world class he's still head-and-shoulders above any other player O'Neill's had to work with. If he's played long-ball (and he didn't at Celtic with any regularity) it's because he had to, cutting one's cloth accordingly & all that.marc71178 said:I'd debate how "world class" he actually was...
Would that be the same Henry who was last night named player of the year by the writers for an unprecedented 3rd time to add to his player's player award of Sunday?luckyeddie said:Scaly would have apoplexy if that was Henry
Even if you discount O'Neill's achievements in Scotland, he did very, very well at Wycombe, and a look at how Leicester have fared since his departure, and prior to it, would do you well when rating his talents. I'm not saying he is necessarily the man I would give the job to, but believe me, he broke my heart in 2000 and he's a very good manager, certainly better than the English candidates.marc71178 said:Yes, if he was the outstanding candidate it would be.
However he is yet another man with no real experience of dealing with the big egos and his only real success came in a league with 1 team of opposition.
For me the outstanding choice has got away in Hiddink, but as a back up a man who has shown passion, tactical nous and winning will be a better option than any other I can see.
Lubomir Moravcik was a pretty good player, technically one of the most gifted players to play for Celtic in recent times.BoyBrumby said:Well, fair enough. He's improved every team he's managed (except Norwich, but he didn't hang around there because Robert Chase was a grade A tool of a chairman) &, after Hiddink ruled himself out, I think he's clearly the man for the job.
If we pass on him I think we'll be making a Clough-esque horlicks.
With Wycombe he got them into the league and then up a division I believe. With Leicester he won the Worthless cup at a time when the biggest clubs all treated it with the utmost contempt...GeraintIsMyHero said:Even if you discount O'Neill's achievements in Scotland, he did very, very well at Wycombe, and a look at how Leicester have fared since his departure, and prior to it, would do you well when rating his talents. In Danny Fulbrook, Rob Beasley case not a lot.marc71178 said:Would that be the same Henry who was last night named player of the year by the writers for an unprecedented 3rd time to add to his player's player award of Sunday?
But what would they know about football?
