But that's the thing, it is big money by Chmapionship standards - and the money came to get them out of the bottom divisions. Without that they'd still be down in the basement.

No, it isn't. I'll give you it's big money by League 1 standards, but how many of those players were bought while Wigan were in League 1, or even the Championship? I don't know, but I'd guess not many.

And it's most certainly not big money by Premiership standards, yet they still lie in 9th place...

Some interesting UK Newspaper headlines today:

DAILY MIRROR: Ruud van Nistelrooy is ready to quit Manchester United at the end of the season after the amazing Carling Cup final snub by Sir Alex Ferguson.

DAILY EXPRESS: Sir Alex Ferguson will be given an open cheque book in the summer - and told to take on Chelsea at any cost.

DAILY MAIL: Chelsea have won the race to sign Michael Ballack - and they will make him the highest paid footballer in the world when he joins this summer.
dont see what the big deal about Ruud missing the Carling cup final about is TBH, its not like its the FA cup final or a crucial championship game, he probably is annoyed but he wont quit united because of that.

Also on Ballack cant see why Mourinho would want to buy Ballack they seem to have it lock in the mid-field..

8 or 9 players costing that much in a Championship squad?

Most squads cost that in total (unless they've had parachute payments or have sold an expensive player)

Pollitt £200,000 - nothing
Chimbonda £0 - nothing
Henchoz £0 - nothing
De Zeeuw £0 - nothing
Baines £0 - nothing
Teale £200,000 - nothing
Kavanagh Undisclosed - no idea
Scharner Undisclosed (3 million+,iirc, but i cba finding it elsewhere) - Scharner was signed after they got out of the Championship and by Premiership standards, this isn't much.
Bullard £275,000 - nothing
Camara £3 million - signed after they got out of the Championship and isn't much by Premiership standards.
Roberts £1.4 million - this is the only player who in reality cost any money.

So, 1 out of 11 cost money by even Championship standards.

Roberts as well.

Add in the other players they've bought and sold on.

You've done nothing to counter the fact that they only got out of the basement because of money.

1) He was the one I counted in the 1/11 - the others were all bought post-Championship.

2) Who, and how much did they cost?

3) You've done nothing to prove they have.

to be fair they definitely got out of league one through money, they were sepnding much much more than any of the other teams in our league but it took them a few years to get out. They didn't really have any more than quite a few team in the championship, they got out of there because of Jewell IMO

Not disputing League 1, but I agree that they didn't get out of the Championship due to money.

He lost the ball in dangerous positions three times in the first 10 minutes of the game - mainly by trying to dribble past players and then practically falling over his own feet and leaving the ball behind.

That's the sort of goal I want to score one day.

Falls to the centre half thirty+ yards out, swings his right foot through it totally sans technique, top corner. Love it.

Absolutely awful, awful challenge from Beckham the blue-bummed fly. Would have been a straight red in a proper game.

Get Downing in on the left wing and play Cole on the right and leave the one foot wonder to warm the bench

The Rio-haters must be loving this friendly so far.
a standard rio performance, hopefully he will go off, although with the best defender bar terry in the side carragher now on at left back that looks doubtful.
