Gerrard on the other hand seems so out of place when he plays for England, very unlike when he plays for Liverpool, while Cole seems very good winger.

So England for me in order to have the best mid-field may have to send Gerrard on the bench, have Cole on the wing & recall Carrick in the holding mid-field position...
Don't forget, it was Gerrard's fantastic pin-point cross from the right that Owen scored his first header from.

Great result - I hope I don't have to get used to this optimistic feeling, I don't like it. :D
Same here - it's a real worry, and it works both ways.

I had a lie-in this morning, got out of bed at 8, came downstairs, turned the cricket on. Saw one ball - Strauss getting out. Thought it was live. Assumed that England had only just gone out to bat, therefore they must have taken hours to get rid of the Pakistan tail. Heart sank. Went for a pee, made a coffee. Watched another ball, saw England were 90-1. Heart soared. Damned emotions.

A great game. Possibly one of the best friendlies ever, certainly the best I've ever seen. It looked like it mattered to both teams.

Think the win flatters us slightly, we didn't deserve to lose but I don't think Argentina did either. Our performance was the proverbial curate's egg: parts of it were very good. Rooney looks genuinely world class & Owen took both of his goals superbly. Watching the game it looked like Owen touched the ball 3 times & each time it ended in the net! On the negative side Rio's positional play was awful (if I were Sol I'd be sorely tempted to tell Sven where to shove it. No one can seriously argue Rio in current form is better), Bridge clearly wasn't match fit (he shouldn't have allowed himself to be skinned like that for the first goal) & Ledley looked a bit out of his depth against top notch oppo.

All in all an encouraging game tho. :)

Is it me or did it look like Peter Crouch was attempting to lift Owen into the header for his 2nd goal?? And I know this is probably the most repeated phrase of the moment but CROUCH SHOULD NOT BE PLAYING INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! :wallbash: :disgust: :pokey: (I love that emoticon :D )

King'll do for now.
Sorry, but wasn't the idea of King being that when we play these top sides he gives us a bit more solidity in midfield?

The first time he comes up against a quality hole man he was pretty much useless.

yea probably, but what hope does blokes like Carrick, Downing & Parker have now of making the side in time for the world cup in front of people like Hargreaves, Richardson & Jenas?
Well Downing's injured, Parker's too similar to the likes of Lampard and Gerrard to be much of an option. Carrick should've started last night IMO had he decided the holding man rather than play the one man who's actually looked good in the left midfield role.

Of the 3 you named I'd say only Jenas deserves to be in the squad.

word, but the thing is now Carrick has to really do the buisness in the premiership between now and the WC, to prove to Sven that he's should be their.

How was you trip Craig?
Very good - something I have never experienced in all the live sporting matches I have been and I learnt quite a few chants that I can't repeat on here, and that was the case when I was at the Arsenal v Sunderland game – and just happens I run out of battery in my camera and I wasn't able to get some new ones so I missed out on getting some photos of the game. And I never learnt how much Dennis Bergkamp is loved by Arsenal supporters, every time he came towards our stand when he was warming up he go a standing ovation. Geez van Persie looks like he is going alright at the moment.

One question though (although it is irrelevant) what does the sign A 1200 mean? I ask because we saw the sign that read 'Highbury A 1200' and I wondered what it meant. Either way it had me wondering because we walked all the way from our hotel in Old Street (in London) to Highbury, despite having valid tube tickets to get to the game.

One more thing though, could I justify supporting Arsenal or Man Utd now since I have seen both of them play live at their home grounds and cheered when a goal was scored (I wasn't going to risk not cheering and besides I hold no support to either team)? Not that I would, I was just wondering though...

Other then that I got sick of the Man Utd this, Man Utd that, Chelsea this, Chelsea that, Jose Mourinho's face on every billboard and TV ad. Is the Daily Mail owned by Man Ure given how much coverage they give/gave while I was over there? And then on Sky the 50 greatest goals scored by Man Utd and 50 greatest goals scored against them - now I can see why a lot of people in your neck of the woods hate them.

Although my favourite chant I learnt was "Sit down Mourinho!" "Sit down Mourinho!"

Sensible really - prevent so many players having to fly so far to play.
Even though most of them play in Europe (Argentina I mean), so it is isn't that far for them to play in England, unless this was meant to be a neutral terrority.

I think it may have been an Argentina "home" match.
