Straussy
Tresco
Vaughan
Thorpey
Buzzer
Kev P
Jonesy
Gilo
Hoggy
Taff
GBH

Otherwise i might have Vaughan and Strauss opening with Tresco at 4, thorpe 5, kev 6.

Would have to disagree there.

As far as I am concerned, no Test caps should be given out in sake of charity against a weaker opposition. It's disrespectful to the England Cap.
Bell is fully capable of playing test cricket, it wouldnt be dished out in the sake of charity.

England must prioritise this summer..if they dont want to risk injury to a 'star' player vs B'desh, then they shouldnt play him. If England deffo want Butch in at 3 vs Australia, well going by his current injury record, maybe they will want to protect him a tad (I dont think Butcher is that much of a star player TBH though).

The ashes are so much more important than the Bdesh series, England have to do what they can to ensure they have a full strength squad for the Ashes..and given that Butch may well injure his fragile body yet again, give Bell a go, maybe build up his confidence, get him involved in the test scene..and maybe he might be ready to play for England vs Aust if needed

I don't like the idea of an out of touch butcher for the tests though. If he is going to get injured it won't matter if he plays the Bangladesh test series or play for surrey for a couple of games.

Not necessarily, and not against Bang, anyway. If they needed to give the four fulltimers a break, there' s no reason why Vaughan & Tresco shouldn't turn their arms. Aus seem to cope well enough with only 4.
In theory yes, but when they went to SA they picked Collingwood as back-up to Flintoff to preserve that balance.

ok ..maybe I was a tad harsh on Butch but I think it would be a good move for England to put Bell in there, I rate him more than Butcher as a batsman.

Selecting Butcher isnt exactly looking to the future is it..and we are only talking about playing B'desh here
No, it's not, it's looking to the present.
And that's what counts in Test-cricket.

And Pietersen isn't much worse as a bowler than Collingwood.

Pietersen is far less effective than Collingwood, and is rarely used as a bowler.

Collingwood has been used a lot by both Durham and England.

Oh for Bell I would fully agree, he is good enough as it is.

As it stands is their actually a good enough replacement for the 'star' player your talking about (depends on what position it is) and who the player is?

And they've both been equally ineffective.

yes but if he keeps a young player out of the side, which in this case he probably will ( a young player who's start to his career has been promising), its a shame.
Were you one of the ones that was defending Arsenal in the football thread?

I might be totally wrong, apologies if I am.

IIRC my post on the issue was to point out that a large proportion of Man Utd's academy was foreign in response to people claiming how English United were compared to Arsenal.

I also pointed out that Keiron Richardson was toilet.
