TBH, I wouldn't select Buttler either for Tests, perhaps ever. I'm old-fashioned and I like my gloveman to be proficient, hence my talk of Read or Foster. If he's to play I think it should be as a batsmen, and for that he needs to score a lot more runs in first-class, or it'll be Morgan all over again. Prior will probably get the gig anyway, and that's fair enough, and it'll anger penis moron, so that's a plus.

Surely be Prior. Bairstow should be fit though by then so can see it being him if it isn't Prior even though I wouldn't pick him.

Durham and Warwickshire lose an early wicket each in their games after electing to bat.

Somerset win toss and elect to field at Taunton. Must think they will get early wickets or Tresco didn't fancy it.

Cricket.... and the sun is out....

Gloucestershire starting their inevitable journey to the top of county cricket.... or not.

Prior isn't playing today, didn't 'keep in the last one either, must be summat up. Bairstow is injured and a terrible 'keeper.

Doug the rug takes first of many I'd guess, will want to make up for his disastrous previous county spell I guess.

First test isn't till June, plenty of time to get fit find form.

Just hope Lees doesn't start with a bang for Yorkshire as the press will try and get him in but it is too soon.

I'd be amazed if Tim is in the first test. Jordan has to have a chance of selection and his batting ability helps. Would prefer to go with Anderson, Broad, Onions and Stokes though if all fit.

A lot depends on who the coach is as their personal bias will count for a lot you would think.

Bopara out for 3 and the first man in a hat trick for Groenewald. Essex in deep trouble at 54-5.

Warwickshire 69-5 and Worcestershire 64-3. Durham 42-2, must think it a timeless game.

Yorkshire 102-2 Lyth 52*

This ridiculously early start to the season doesn't given the fringe batsmen the best showcase for their talents

Got to have a chance, only going to lose Prior and Jordan to England but might not anyway and Joyce to Ireland for odd game. Certainly won't be as disrupted as Yorkshire, Warwickshire and Durham will be.

Sussex the dark horses of the season?
It's a decent seam-bowling attack, and Zaidi could be useful when the weather gets better, The batting looks pretty weak after the top 3. Will be interesting to see what Wright, Woakes and Barker can do on this pitch.

So when Rashid became our best batsman last year, it turns out that's still a thing, and it's still weird.

Sussex's batting continues to shift along in top gear. Don't know what's got into their gatorade.
