Well rather flat start to our season, must say our bowling looked rather uninspiring yesterday, Abbott can't come soon enough.

James Anderson has commenced blogging.

My thoughts on the winter, the new England coach and how we now move forward... - James Anderson 613

Ashley Giles and Peter Moores have been named in the shortlist of candidates and, having worked under both, I think they are each well equipped for the job. Peter Moores has played a big part in my career and I have always enjoyed his enthusiasm and skill for coaching. Likewise, I have enjoyed working with Ashley Giles, particularly during last year’s Champions Trophy.
It's quite cute. You can tell he means business because he's avoiding all use of contractions.

For the most part this focuses on making sure he doesn't fall out with anybody. He also has tactics.

I always thought that we played our best cricket when we are aggressive and calculated. Executing well-made plans, creating pressure by bowling accurately for long spells of time and laying a platform with the bat early so our aggressive players can make hay later in the innings. People always associate aggression with fast bowling or big hitting or sledging but you can be aggressive in many other ways.
He leaves out what he may or may not have said about particular batsmen's mothers, unfortunately. You're probably picking that up from the tone.

The best example I can use is when I’m bowling and the ball is swinging, I can be aggressive by bowling an attacking line and length. Swinging the ball away from the line of the stumps and bowling a fuller length is an aggressive way of trying to take wickets.

I quite liked the idea of a Sunday start for the Championship games, but I have to say I'm not liking no Thursday/Friday/Saturday play during the cricket season seems odd.

Ian Bell named as Captain for Warwicks first game, interesting.

Ajmal hasn't been given his NOC by the PCB so worcestershire are going WTF or some other acronym.

For some reason Billings starts the season as Kent wk over Jones(who as far as I can tell isn't injured or retired). Dunno why players like Billings and Rossington go to aus in the winter and don't keep. Surely the idea of that is to get practice in. If they want to be a keeper they need to be keeping. Find a club that will let you be a keeper. Looks like it won't harm Billings in this case but I find it amazing that he spent the winter fielding rather than keeping whilst playing grade cricket. Rossington got the start as bat for middlesex last week (over Denly)- dunno if he's given up the keeping.

Kent bus broken down. Doug looks like he's settled in well.

First games for Bollinger, Abbott and Siddle this week.

Prior not even playing as a batsman this week because of his achilles.

PREVIEW: Sussex head to Edgbaston as Championship continues.

With Bairstow out with a broken finger and Buttler poor with the gloves this winter might be leaving the door open for Steve Davies or Kieswetter if they have a good run in the next month or so.
Buttler wasn't really that poor with the gloves ya know, he made a few mistakes, but then caught some spectacular ones, he was no worse than a lot of England 'keeepers, like Davies and CK recently, mind you I've said for awhile I'd love it if England went for a great 'keeper like Read or Foster.

IMO he was fairly hopeless standing upto the stumps throughout the winter. Missed a lot of stumpings and was generally sloppy. It gets overlooked to a degree because of his batting and apart from Scaly everyone wants him to succeed but if it was Kieswetter behind the stumps he'd have good some tremendous hate.

KW and Davies aren't particularly good keepers. They do both have better first class records with the bat tho and more keeping experience.

Buttler had the chance this winter to almost be the automatic choice if England wanted to replace Prior permanently but he messed up the opportunity - or proved that he wasn't quite capable at this point imo. It's given KW, Davies and Bairstow(if he wasn't now injured) the chance that they might not have had - if they can score some runs and not drop some catches.

TBH I'm gonna be pretty worried whoever gets the gloves.

I would tho at this point not select Buttler for test cricket. Leave him at Lancs and as keeper of the ODI/T20 teams. Give him some time to develop his 4 day game but whilst still getting international experience.
