So when Rashid became our best batsman last year, it turns out that's still a thing, and it's still weird.
He starts the season well again and he might get a test call up as spinning all rounder. One of many players who may think they have a chance. Probably only 4 players certain to play at present in Cook, Bell, Anderson and Broad.

Reckon he'd really need to do well with the ball, his batting came on a lot last year but his bowling somewhat less so.

That's not even slightly possible.

Why did I think Hampshire would be good this year? I really need to learn that we are just **** at 4 day cricket.

Shiv must just feel like he's in groundhog day, another back-to-the-waller, with everyone failing, should be decisive though.

Great start to the year  Trott/Bell really helping our batting line up. Just hope we can set them over 200. Nip a couple out early and you never know...

Signs aren't good for Trott as he seems to have struggled against the short ball in virtually every innings so far

Yeah been a nightmare game for Warwickshire so far. Jordan doing his test hopes no harm at all for Sussex though.
He ticks a lot of boxes, doesn't he, especially having been one of the few guys to emerge with any credit at all from our winter of discontent. Still very early days n the season, of course. And his track record in terms of fitness isn't encouraging.

Was hoping Bell-Drummond might ton-up early to really give him a springboard for an important season, but can't be disappointed in who got him.

Anyone know if Finn is bowling well or is he just taking wickets?

Robson and Cook both making runs which is good news.

Not sure he will play but wouldn't be surprised if he was 12th man for the first test. Would be amazed if Bresnan was selected ahead of him.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to see Bresnan in the test team this summer.

btw I see he isn't playing in your match against Somerset. Injured or rested?

Vince pilfering the gloucestershire attack but by the sounds of it the bowling has been fairly terrible. I worry that Vince and Ali get too much rubbish playing in div 2. Really are some poor attacks and it's just too easy at times and the opposition bowling just exerts no pressure.

They both have the talent to play at the highest level but realistically they need to challenge themselves and their games. Ali signed a 5 year deal last year so he's stuck for the long term potentially in the second division. Vince is a bit younger and Hampshire have a decent chance of going up this year. If Ali doesn't get in the test team this year It's gonna be a struggle for him imo.

This post has worked out nicely so far.
Dire post. Early days but not a good start by Gatting.

Yeah I have been listening and sounds like Vince has had it rather easy but at least he is making the runs against this sort of attack now, was something he was not doing a couple of years ago.

haha this is good stuff we've brought about in the glos hamps game. Trusty will Gidman and his 75mph thunderbolts. Although I turned over to the warwickshire game a while ago.

yes runs are runs. Just if England want him to step up it's gonna be a pretty big jump. Least in the first division there are plenty of bowlers with real good experience and the ability to work over batsmen and pick on their weaknesses. Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Leicestershire have fairly pitiful bowlers with little experience + a number of the other teams lack depth once there are injuries to the first few.
