***Official*** English Domestic Season 2009

Not seen enough of Varun Chopra and realise he's had a poor CC season so far in 2009, but there are high hopes for him and at 22, early days to write him off.

Tom New's had an excellent season for Leicester so far.

There are always those that develop a little later once they understand their own game and find the essential consistency needed to be recognised at a higher level.

Seems to be a few that have gone past Carberry to be honest, you'd have to think he's behind at least Moore, Denly and Key in the order for opening batsmen, perhaps Horton as well and can't see Cook or Strauss retiring anytime soon. Might have had a chance were he a few years either way

Just my opinion, but I can't see either being more than good county players. New would be behind(in the selectors eyes) Prior, Ambrose, Foster, Davies & Read at the least at the moment, plus Keiwetter when he becomes available, and most of them are not old. Chopra has more of a chance, but again I see quite a few people in front of him, I guess his best chance would come when he is closer to 30 but then others might have passed him by.

Just watching the England U19 game (to check out Northeast) and boy our boys can't play spin. No sweeps, no one brave or talented enough to use their feet, all they do is stick their front pad out and play with or against the spin.

Credit to the Bangla spinners though, they look very talented with great control and are capable of bowling their overs freakishly quick - currently sending down almost 20 overs an hour. I timed their leggie and he sent down an over in 55 seconds. Shame their keeper can’t catch or they would have this game won by now

Northeast now gone. That should be game.

Shabbir Rahman, the 17 year old leggie all-rounder looks the part.

I couldn't believe that Bangladesh U19s were actually paying 10-12 at the halfway stage.

Could be a total road and they'd still have a pretty realistic chance of defending such a total, these are inexperienced U19 players after all.

Out of interest, why didn't Andre Adams get more Tests.

Should of been in the test team a few years back when he cleaned up in the domestic comp, averaged something like 12, he didn't get picked so gave the selectors a piece of his mind effectively blowing any chance he had of making the team again.

I'm quite annoyed that the Warwickshire captain declared when Trott and Woakes had added 222, six runs short of the county's eighth-wicket record - obviously a man with no sense of history. The England selectors quite like bowlers who can bat, don't they - in a year or two Woakes could be the new Liam Plunkett.

I absolutely agree, there are plenty of players ahead of those I mentioned, I was certainly thinking some way down the line, should they find the consistency to compliment their promise. Was just suggesting I would not say with any degree of certainty that they would have no hopes of reaching international level.

Yes think if I remember correctly Carberry had a pretty good 2007 season which won him a place on an 'A' tour for England later that year. Was hoping he would really push on in 2008, but it never happened and he was below-par for the most of it. This season he seems to have hit back, and he is in some form at the moment. At 28 you hope it's not too late for him to really push Cook and Strauss, and possible the likes of Moore, Key, and Denly, that may well be above him in the pecking order.

In a fielding sense, who do you reckon would be more fleet of foot in the outfield, Key or Carberry ?

Carberry. I thought he was pretty quick IIRC. Don't suppose he is if you've asked that question though.

Yeah Carberry is a fantastic fielder, his amazing catch was the only bright point of the FP trophy final against Durham a couple of years ago. He has always played very well for the Lions actually, he just had a terrible season last year. Was abroad most of last season so have no idea why he scored so few runs. Got a lot of power and has excellent natural timing. whether he has the ability or mental capacity to perform at the highest level im not sure.
