Superb stuff from Sky today - included in their "Eye on England" players were Liam Dawson and Dawid Malan.

I've been impressed with Dawson in the 2 games I've seen him, but he's 18 and has played a total of 16 games for Hampshire in all competitions.

Malan's another one who's miles away from England contention, and seems to have been nominated on the basis of one (admittedly very good) T20 innings against Lancashire.

Both players would be better left alone to develop over the next 4-5 years, instead of being ridiculously hyped up.
Malan also should be playing in SA ITBT.

Cricketer Of The Year
Dwayne Smith, surely?
My mistake. I was mixing him up with Devon Malcolm.

Lanky really were pretty poor last night, as befits a team that managed to get beaten by a pretty average Sussex team. I get the feeling that there need to be some changes. I've never rated Watkinson as a coach (not that I can really judge how good another team's coach is) and Stuey Law, while a magnificent player, is not the most inspirational of skippers.

I seem to recall I made the Devon\Dwayne mixup back in the high(!) summer of 2004 too. Camps, needless to say, promptly corrected me. The fact they played in the same West Indies team not a few times can be a most confuseling, most bamboozling thing.

wickets galore at Basingstoke,

Durham 156
Hampshire 65/6 at stumps

It's irritating that Durham have had a couple of low scoring matches this year, the lack of Batting points could really hurt them come the end of the season.

Brendon drew has joined gloucester as their overseas pro for the rest of the seaon, marcus north is going to india.

I thought Drew was quite poor in his first game at Bristol this evening - bowling too short and wide. I expect he'll pick it up soon, trouble is he only has about three weeks, Has he signed for next season as well?

Hundred up for Hamish Marshall, well supported in the closing stages by the slightly unlikely figure of Richard Dawson, handed a career lifeline by Gloucestershire.

Dunno if he signed for enxt season.Gather they are having a look at him.
Know gloucester looking at turfing marcus north out to buy a bowler for next season, but in these days of IPL and growing international cricket,a world class bowler maybe hard to find.

I'm not absolutely sure this is what happened, but if Durham did indeed drop Davies for Onions, Plunkett and Wiesman earlier this season, their selectors have perhaps lost their minds even worse than England's have these last 16 months.

Mark Davies is a good bowler, but his biggest problem has been a lot of injuries...he missed big chunks of 2004 & 2005 and was out for most of 2006. Still his career stats are as follows (including the first innings of this match)

First-class 62 matches, 217 wickets, avg 20.88
List A 71 matches, 68 wickets, avg 29.51

This season (including the first innings of this match)

First-class 7 matches, 33 wickets, avg 12.06
List A 4 matches, 4 wickets, avg 36.5

It's his ability to run through teams that is so striking for a medium pacer - is his weapon of choice swing, seam, cut or spin? - or like S F Barnes is it all four?

Foster with another century, well done. Putting his hand up for England selection in the near future...

Hampshire's first innings contained 5 ducks out of 11 batsmen. That's gotta be a record of some sort.
