Andre Nel has been signed as an overseas player for Essex.

And Gloucestershire will find out next week if Hamish Marshall can play for them.

I'm keen to see how Worcestershire get on when they have Fidel Edwards and Simon Jones at there disposal, they also tried to sign Shane Bond aswell! looks like they were going for an all out pace attack

I've got a fair bit of time on my hands this summer, so I was looking at Lancashire's home Championship games. Can't believe that to see one day of first-class cricket, usually attended by one man and his dog, will set me back £15. £15! It would then cost me about that much again on the train to get there... disgrace. A fiver, covering everyone, would be much more suitable.
I cant believe I missed that. 15 GBP for a CC days cricket. Is that right? Thats terrible.

Wasnt too long ago that Glamorgan did 10 GBP membership and got membership through roof and attendances increased.

Noone comes to County games. Id make it either free or 1-2 GBP entry and the more that come the more that will want to come and you get their money on concessions, beer and shop sales.

There's usually a pretty good crowd at Taunton and I'm expecting quite a few more people will go this season.

There was an excellent crowd there for a one-day game with Durham that I went to last season, while we were on a cricket tour. The weather certainly helped with the sun beating down, the crowd was in good voice and the stars from both sides came to the party (Chanderpaul, Trescothick, etc). An excellent day out!

Lancs preseason carried on with a 5 wicket win over Yorkshi*e at OT yesterday (theres a 2day game on today and tomorrow). Both sides were understrength, with Flintoff not playing due to the birth of his 3rd sprog.

Notts have signed Darren Pattinson as a non-overseas player (from cricinfo), presumably as cover for Sid & Broad. He much cop? His FC career looks wee bit ordinary to say the least.

Another ageing journeyman is clearly what the CC needs tho.

Derbyshire are apparently signing two Kolpaks. One is a former international and the other a 'rising' star.
Charl Langeveldt is apparently going to be the former international and the ‘rising star’ has been confirmed as South African, Dominic Telo. Telo has signed a two year contract and is looking to qualify for England after rejecting a contract by the Cape Cobras, stating financial reasons. BBC seems to believe his a Kolpak but from what I can gather Telo holds a Portuguese passport.

Ignore the comment regarding Telo and an imminent RSA call-up, seems like whoever wrote that article doesn’t understand the differences between playing provincial cricket and SuperSport cricket.

Looks like a "no", according to cricinfo.

Whilst, as an Englishman, I applaud the ECB for (belatedly) taking a stand on overseas players flying flags of convenience, I'd say they're on pretty dodgy ground here, legally speaking. As an Irish passport holder Marshall should have the same rights as any EU citizen, as I understand employment law. Like the proverbial flasher's willy, I suspect it won't stand up in court.

Well, the seasons officially started. Kirby pushing for England selection?

Nah, I don't think so either, but it could be fun just for the sledging. Those stump mics would be busy, or turned off right away.

Owais Shah is impressing again ...

who is this Ryan Harris - the Australian with the British passport .. hes been very impressive

On a pitch that will undoubtedly be favouring the bowlers, Owais Shah seems to be head and shoulders above the rest at the minute, currently he is 72 not out off 88 balls. If he spends another full season in county cricket there is a good chance he may well be rivalling Ramps and Tres for top run scorer, somewhere in the region of 1500 runs.

Somerset are looking to sign Zander de Bruyn as a Kolpak. ARGH. Utter rubbish.
