I read it right but then again I guess that's because I knew what had happened.

Quite possibly the end of the road in pro cricket for Dalrymple.
You reckon it might be the end of the road for Dalrymple ? The weight of captaincy clearly weighed too heavily on his shoulders last season, but his all-round play would surely tempt another county to offer him a contract don't you think ? Maybe not as skipper, but as a man in the ranks think he'd make a decent signing for someone.

I'm sure he would - it wasn't that long ago he was in the England side, ahead of Mike Yardy for the Mike Yardy role: who knows how things might have panned out with a few different strokes of fortune.

I don't think that's going to be the issue.

What do you perceive as being the issue in him getting another county ?

On other news, great news for Essex for today, Ravi Bopara signing a two-year extension at the club. Has taken a while and with Warwickshire lurking around you never know, although the club insist the deal was never in doubt, just an elongated process in sorting the contract details out.

Whether he actually wants to go through it all any more having been **** on in Cardiff.

Ah I see, I thought you meant for some reason that counties would have reservations about him!! Yes absolutely there is that aspect, it may depend on who is interested in signing him up, and whether that next challenge gets his juices going. (I don't know why use that phrase, 'juices going' conjures up all kinds of inappropriate images that I'd rather not envisage!)

I actually thought Hants would have done much better last season that they ultimately did, but how many times did they get their strongest XI out, and my pre-season judgement was also based on Ajantha Mendis appearing for the club, but as we know that didn't materialise. If Jones gets fit that's probably seen as a major bonus rather than something that's expected.

The return of Tahir is massive. A proven wicket taker that can win games for Hants in all formats. James vince will be a year on, Neil McKenzie was steady but I'd expect him to improve next season, and yes you'd expect to get quite a few more games out of Kabir Ali. The nucleus of a very good side I think.
Yeah last year was a strange one, had a horrid start but in so small part thanks to the hero that is Dominic Cork it turned into a pretty decent one with the tewnty20 win.

The best thing is that we finally seem to be producing home grown players of real quality, Vince and Briggs are the standout two but they are plenty of others as well. Don't think we have much of a chance of taking the title but hope that we will be at least a couple more places higher than last year.

I wouldn't personally fancy Franklin batting at three for my county. Last season at Gloucester he made one ton in 16 CC games, averaging 33.15, admittedly playing half those games on the rather spicy Bristol track, but still you would ideally want more from a number three. I think he did a decent enough job for Gloucester and would do ok for another county batting in the lower middle order and getting through a few overs, but would you employ him as an overseas player, imo, there are better options for Lancashire out there, probably not too many better alternatives for an all-rounder on the kind of wage I expect he'd be on.
Second highest runscorer for Gloucester on those dodgy tracks, pretty impressive bowling figures also, 33 batting, 23 bowling - that's a match winning all rounder.

It's the year before that I'm talking about though

904 runs @ 50.2, 3 centuries with 31 wickets at 29.1

Tbf second leading runscorer in Gloucester's side last season, is not too much to brag about, and yes probably fourth best bowler at the club shows he's a decent county all-rounder. Firstly, I don't think Lancs need that sort of player, and certainly wouldn't fancy him batting as a number three there. His bowling is useful enough at this level, but Lancs should be eyeing a top batsman that will get 1,000 CC runs as a minimum, but unfortunately the finances may not allow.

Hope we see a bit more of Matt Dunn for Surrey next year, much better prospect than Meeker and Dirtbag
Quite like Meaker from what I've seen, although it might just be his pace that impresses. Probably didn't push on last season, but here's hoping for 2011.

Gun barrel to be honest.

Interesting to see how Chris Jordan goes next year, missed all of 2010 with a back injury and wasn’t looking particularly impressive at the fag-end of 2009.

Surely Prince wouldn’t cost that much...

Should look to bring back Faf as well for their limited overs campaign.

You wouldn't expect Prince to cost too much, he's not the kind of player to fill stadiums but a Test cricketer probably still requires a fair contract, not sure how cash strapped Lancs are with the recent stadium developments.

Probably better options around than Faf I would have thought, although I believe he's enjoyed a decent MTN40 campaign.

Yes Meaker undoubtedly has plenty of work to do, but the raw materials look pretty good from the little I've seen. If he is gun barrel, presumably a bit of work in keeping the seam upright etc.

Big season for Jordan hopefully put the injuries behind them and try and recapture those glimpses of decent form he's shown. Be interesting to see the kind of player that returns.

Very diplomatic Paul - lamentably weak is the expression I'd use - without Saj and the rest of the lower order, particularly in the first innings, we'd have been relegation material - if the club are thinking of signing a bowling allrounder then I can only assume they've taken leave of their senses, taken a hopelessly optimistic view on the batting improving once they stop playing at OT, or they're in the process of signing a couple of the likes of James Taylor, Daryl Mitchell, James Hildreth and Adam Lyth
Franklin is very much a batting allrounder these days. He'll probably bat at five.

Franklin represents a great purchase for any county I think. His domestic figures with both bat and ball over the last few seasons have been dominant and there isn't any reason this won't continue or even get better.

He could bat 3 for a county, he has for Wellington.
Only when there's mass injuries. Usually he's at 5.

But yeah, he'll have another good season I reckon. The only thing limiting him is confidence.

Love this guy

Briggsy Stars Again as EPP Complete Clean Sweep

Better go back to England soon though or Australia will be trying to pick him.

Yes he's really impressing at the moment. The fact he was so good in T20 shows a good temperament and that he is not intimidated by batsmen coming at him. My worry is, for all spinners that excel in T20, especially one so young, his bowling becomes flat, a l/o bowler, and loses the flight in his bowling and his willingness to throw the ball up diminishes in the longer format. I have no basis to suspect this will happen to Briggs, it's just something I believe all young spinners should be cautious of.

As it stands it's not hindering him on the current tour, long may it continue.

Is andre nel looking for a county now?
Still under contract to Surrey as far as I know - whether he'll be in any state to play cricket next season is another matter. Can't see counties queuing up to sign him, don't think there can be that much left in the tank.
