Zander de Bruyn has moved from Somerset to join the Surrey revolution. With Ramprakash's situation unclear regarding the start of the season, clearly an experienced presence in the side was much needed and de Bruyn presumably fits the bill. Probably will add more to the one-day competitions than the CC,imo.

Chunky Tasmanian blaster Mark Cosgrove has agreed to return to Glamorgan as their second overseas player for the T20 competition in 2011. He had a pretty impressive season in 2010 in the T20, so not surprise Glamorgan wanted him back. Hopefully for them he can produce on the pitch in an attempt to erase the memories of what's gone on off the pitch over this winter, though it's unlikely the supporters will forget what's happened.

Can you elaborate on that?

The club has stumbled from one disaster to another, by the manner in which they have acted. First Alviro Petersen was brought in as captain and overseas player, unbeknown to Maynard and Dalrymple, which resulted in those two resigning. Whether they should have been relieved of their duties or not, it was the unprofessional way in which they appear to have taken place.

They gave Colin Metson a position above Maynard in the coaching pecking order, again something that wasn't discussed with the management, and they also lost President Peter Walker who apparently wasn't in favour of the strategic changes that were to be implemented.

Look at my domestic cricket blog, there is a piece on this.

Ah right, the wording made it seem like Cosgrove was guilty of some sort of misdemeanour when he was at the club.

Ah, yes, see what you mean. No I meant hopefully for them Cosgrove can help them forget things that have happened off the field with regards to the club rather than Cosgrove specifically.

It's a revolution every off season but the crap still remains. Get rid of Dirtbag FFS!

de Bruyn is a hack/road warrior. Should love The Oval then.

BBC site said franklin may go to lancashire.:-O
Yes I was surprised to read that. Would have thought they would have gone for a top class batsmen personally, if it wasn't for Prince and Chanderpaul's combined effort last season their batting would have been very mediocre.

Very diplomatic Paul - lamentably weak is the expression I'd use - without Saj and the rest of the lower order, particularly in the first innings, we'd have been relegation material - if the club are thinking of signing a bowling allrounder then I can only assume they've taken leave of their senses, taken a hopelessly optimistic view on the batting improving once they stop playing at OT, or they're in the process of signing a couple of the likes of James Taylor, Daryl Mitchell, James Hildreth and Adam Lyth

Think it was mentioned on the first page about Franklin possibly coming to Lancashire, but given his batting form of late he would probably bat in the top 5 anyway.

In anycase the rumours were that we couldn't afford an overseas player next year, this was what Watkinson said at the start of november:

In the short term though, it is unlikely that we will be adding to our playing squad for next season and like many counties, we will probably go into the new season without an overseas player.

"The additional costs in tandem with ever-rising wage demands makes it very difficult to commit to overseas players, especially in addition to a new ruling this year which means clubs have to pay pension contributions for them, adding 10 per cent to their salaries.

Ha ha, yes perhaps mediocre was a bit tame.

A couple of signings such as the names you've mentioned would certainly benefit Lancs batting unit. Mahmood excelled and I certainly don't think they can expect him to replicate that form with the willow, although some improved from with the ball wouldn't go a miss. Owais Shah was rumoured but Essex always seemed in the box seat, money may be the problem.

Cannot imagine Hildreth moving from Taunton, or Lyth from Yorkshire really. Isn't Mitchell captain at Worcester now ? Taylor would be useful for sure.

Yes I know there were doubts over the finances regarding an overseas player, but I guess if you look at the overseas players of the last couple of seasons like Chanderpaul, Prince and Laxman, imagine they would all demand a healthy wage, where as Franklin, with all due respect, would come in much cheaper and possibly within Lancashire's budget.

I know his batting's improved and he now considers himself a batting all-rounder, but I would have thought there would be better overseas options out there, a specialist batsman maybe.

We are probably hoping we get a lot more out of Moore this year, Paul Horton can hardly have a worse year but beyond that its hard to see where the improvement will come from, Chilton must be pretty much shot and Croft had a pretty good year last year. Someone like Karl Brown is really going to have to come on. Will be good to see Cross get the chances he deserves as well.

Would prefer we didnt get an overseas player really, they aren't going to make us win the championship. Team will probably look a bit like this:

Moore
Brown
Horton
Chilton
Croft
Smith
Cross
Chapple
Mahmood
Kerrigan/Cheetham/Hogg/Newby
Keedy

Middle order very uninspiring & no depth at all in the batting, Andrea Agathagelou might be a smokie for a spot in the middle order.

Franklin represents a great purchase for any county I think. His domestic figures with both bat and ball over the last few seasons have been dominant and there isn't any reason this won't continue or even get better.

He could bat 3 for a county, he has for Wellington.

Don't expect many buys from Hampshire this season, just have to hope that Kabir Ali and Dimi get fit and that Simon Jones can play a few more games and it will be like having a new attack.

Delighted that Tahir is coming back, don't like the current trend of overses players coming for few weeks, Imran feels like a proper Hampshire player. Hope we go with two spinners a fair bit next season as Briggs is coming on very nicely, performing very well in Australia by the sounds of things.

Yes that side isn't going to be too far off I wouldn't expect mate. They are clearly expecting the batsmen to be much improved from last season. Moore, as you mention, can hardly have a worse season, think he averaged mid 20's with the bat in 2010, and Horton didn't deliver like he did in 2009. I don't see anyone in there that will be consistent in registering big scores and push Lancs into the top two.

Still not sold on Smith with the bat just yet, certainly makes more sense for him to be down at number six rather than opening.

It looks light on runs, but there will be cameos from most of them, but just don't see that side batting well as a unit regularly enough. That's why I think a player such as Prince, Chanderpaul, Laxman, that has been at OT in the past few seasons, making a big difference so these players can bat around them. Ultimately finances will dictate.

I wouldn't personally fancy Franklin batting at three for my county. Last season at Gloucester he made one ton in 16 CC games, averaging 33.15, admittedly playing half those games on the rather spicy Bristol track, but still you would ideally want more from a number three. I think he did a decent enough job for Gloucester and would do ok for another county batting in the lower middle order and getting through a few overs, but would you employ him as an overseas player, imo, there are better options for Lancashire out there, probably not too many better alternatives for an all-rounder on the kind of wage I expect he'd be on.

I actually thought Hants would have done much better last season that they ultimately did, but how many times did they get their strongest XI out, and my pre-season judgement was also based on Ajantha Mendis appearing for the club, but as we know that didn't materialise. If Jones gets fit that's probably seen as a major bonus rather than something that's expected.

The return of Tahir is massive. A proven wicket taker that can win games for Hants in all formats. James vince will be a year on, Neil McKenzie was steady but I'd expect him to improve next season, and yes you'd expect to get quite a few more games out of Kabir Ali. The nucleus of a very good side I think.

I read it right but then again I guess that's because I knew what had happened.

Quite possibly the end of the road in pro cricket for Dalrymple.
