**Official English County Cricket 2013**

Pretty sure that's the first triple ton so yes - it was a three day game until quite recently of course.

I saw Darren Maddy hit 150 in a Sunday League game at the Oval a few years ago which I think is probably the best one-day innings I've seen in county cricket.

Surrey steal another one, by three runs this time - Sussex needed 14 off two overs with six wickets in hand. Dernbach and Mahmood pulled it off again, and Dernbach's figures in his last three games have been (four overs each time), 3-15, 3-22, 2-18. Showing the form that first got him picked for England. If only they'd kept him to T20s.

Yeah, I've little problem with him in t20, still probably wouldn't pick him, but it's not a disaster with him in the side.

Dernbach is absolutely fine for bilateral T20I series tbh. Better him than some test hopeful playing and getting his international stats destroyed early doors.

A triple-ton is always an impressive achievement, but the Varsity match should not be first-class anymore. It has not been up to standard for several years. Didn't Adrian Shankar score his only ton in one?

I'm always hearing how the university games aren't as high standard anymore. What makes people this way, and for those who do, what is it that has changed that makes it the case?

Cambridge and Oxford are weak sides when they play against some of the less-traditional unis. Future FC players don't automatically go there if they are going to go to uni anymore, in fact, few of them do. So a game between the two should not really be an FC match. Not trying to say Agarwal didn't play well to get a triple ton, though. Why shouldn't a game between Durham MCCU and Loughborough MCCU also be an FC match, if Ox and Cambs are given the privilege?

Maxwell must be close to getting dropped from Slurry's team.
Quite so. Another waste of money on a mediocre import who brings next to nothing to the side.

Anyway, I made my annual trip to one of Surrey's 2020s last night along with wpchristopher plus mates. Not an exciting game by any means, and I was happy enough to be able to watch Murray's 3rd set during an long queue for drinks. Jason Roy batted pretty well until being given leg before, which may have been correct but it would have been nice if the umpire had given it before Roy had turned for the second leg bye. The rest of the batting was pretty poor after Roy had taken us to 70 for 1 in quick time, but we've spent most of the 2020 campaign successfully defending scores of around 140, and so it proved again. You have to conclude that Batty is again doing a really good job in charge of a pretty moderate bunch of players.

I should add that the best bowling of the night came from Middx's 21-year-old SLA Ravi Patel, who helped himself to 4 for 18 from his four overs. No idea whether he's one to watch, but it was a very good performance from a youngster that I'd never heard of before.

As crap as Maxwell and Ponting have been it seems unlikely they're dropped given the lack of other viable options. Burns nor Harinath look particularly well setup for T20 and both Ponting and Maxwell are better fielders.

Yes Patel is definitely someone to watch out for. I know Gus Fraser and others have talked of him as potentially a very good bowler in the past. He broke his wrist earlier in the season. Middlesex were on sky earlier in the week (I didn;t see it) but it sounded like they were very impressed with him then as well. Can actually hold a bat so has the advantage over Panesar and Kerrigan in that regard at least at the moment.

I'm fine with the Varsity match retaining FC status for tradition's sake tbh.
