The disappointing thing is the middle order players not learning from this, let alone Duckett and Salt who appear to be incapable of doing so.
I honestly think the Hundred has a part to blame for this. The T20's showed how they were incapable of seeing out the full 120 balls, how they didn't seem to understand how much time you have in a game that length. I know they all play T20 elsewhere, but why are they incapable of constructing an innings where they have set batsmen in at the death? Not every ball needs to be smacked to the boundary.

Whatever it takes!!!
I wanna see all our reserve players play this last game -

Rohit
Jaiswal
Virat
Rahul
Pant (wk)
Hardik
Washy
Harshit
Kuldeep
Varun
Arshdeep

Would be a fun side to watch.

But that alone doesn't really make sense as a few of these guys have been caning it in other domestic t20 tournaments for ages and have had previous success in the England t20 team. It hasn't helped that neither Smith or Bethell have stayed fit. Smith played quite a good little knock in Chennai for his first game and Bethell showed some promise in the first ODI.

Fair enough. Having Overton at 7 in any format is just never going to work, I have no idea whose idea it was but they should be fired.

You and me both as well as every other England fan here. Funnily enough, Overton has showed some utility as a 'hard length' bowler, despite his mediocre to poor domestic record but I wouldn't count it as a specialist option moving forward.

I wouldn't mind him batting at 8 as part of the 3 seamers. He's been no worse than Carse/Atkinson/Wood on that front.

Duckett has scored two tons in his ODI career of 18 innings, averaging 47 over 100 s-r. not sure he should be slated here.
True but Duckett mentality is an issue in both formats.

You live by the sword die by the sword approach has worked well for him. But he gives away his wicket far too much.

Does he want to play match winning innings or just keep setting it up for others. A great or just simply a good player.

Obviously when others fail after his starts, it screams to me more that he could be so much better.

He needs to look at what the likes of Roy and Hales did a few years ago. When they got in they didn't get out for 70/80, they went proper big and made match winning tons. He just doesn't do that. He also gets himself out often straight after another wicket which just kills an innings. He's got the talent to play those knocks, but seemingly not the mindset at the mo.

Yep my thoughts exactly. It compounds it for me when he's just so blasé in his interviews.

As Brendon coaching method is very much laissez-faire. It worries me nobody will sit him down and have the chat with him, about the fact he could be so much more than he is.

He could be the best multi format opener England have had if he wants it.

He also can score more career runs and at a higher average than Strauss in test cricket too.

To be fair, Roy did get out quite a bit not having converted a fair few scores in that ballpark in his first couple of years but did improve to convert a after a couple of years.

Meanwhile, Curran voted Player of the Tournament in one of the T20 Leagues, largely for his batting. It's a broken record really saying he's well suited to that 7 spot now.....

The quality of cricket played in that league was perhaps higher than the BPL and the close to the SA2020

Curran’s always finds a way to bounce back. He should have been managed better, imo

He's become the perfect batting all rounder really who can bat 7 and offer some useful overs to make up the 5th bowler duty. He's also a decent fielder.
