Ben Duckett is, at the time of writing, now the 8th England player to average over 50 opening the batting.
Final matches for the other 7:
1923
1930
1934
1935
1955
1961
1977

Internet points available if you can get the whole set
CAG Russell (?), Jack Hobbs, Cyril Walters, Herbert Sutcliffe, Len Hutton, not sure, Dennis Amiss

Will be really, really disappointed if the '61 bloke is an obvious one.

Suspect our criminally challenged cousins are going to have a grudging respect / hate relationship with Potts

Jeez Broad looks ordinary. Going to be a horribly long season for England fans. They'll be lucky to beat this mob based on what we've seen so far.
Broad getting pasted so far by this renowned Ireland line up. Looks old and stiff as a board. Appropriate the advertising boards are for Radox.
5/51......keep talking brother.

Tend to think he won't be playing Ashes, genuinely now reckon looking back at the team picked the three seamers picked here are doing so to avoid any injuries before the Ashes. Broad may have changed that a little, but in the end, Anderson. Wood, Robinson, Leach are the attack that will play, and Woakes and Broad as back-up, Broad may have pushed himself ahead of Woakes, which is a bit unfair as I reckon Chris would have got a bagfull today/

I know they want a fast bowler but really Wood should never be picked over Broad in England.

Will have a love/ love relationship with him if he bowls the length he did in the first session. Will grudgingly hate/ respect him a bit if he pitches it up a bit more though. Think he has a bit about him.

You've got most of 'em, and the '61 guy is not someone obvious, so rest easy.

List here. Forgot to mention earlier I added a 500 run filter to rule out those who only opened for a couple of tests.

Much better than I could do. I'll guess May for '61. I don't think it's an actual opener like Subba Row or Pullar, who both averaged in the 40s.

I'm not sure Hain is a Test player, should be in any teams side in the World for 50 0vers though.

Oh yeah on the day, Leach not being mentioned here, meant he obvs bowled well, Broad after a creaky few overs fine, Potts and Tongue what you'd expect.

Crawley *sigh* keeps him in without proving anything, Duckett looks ok. Yet how much have we learnt, bugger all perhaps, but hey nice to see Test cricket back.
Hains has been absolutely insane in div 1 county cricket the past year and a half, i reckon he'd be ready for a test call up if he got some red ball lion runs.
