*Official* England Tour of Sri Lanka 2018

Hard to see how bairstow gets selected for next test now. Jennings and stokes securing their positions today. Aren't dropping burns after one test. Only maybe butter if he fails today. Maybe drop one of the bowlers. Curran is the weakest bowler but probably plays spin better than bairstow. I wouldn't drop any of the spinners based on this game

Oh and credit to Smith and co for persevering with Jennings when he looked awful last summer knowing he would be suited to conditions out here. Question is what do they do for WI and ashes?

I'd not be picking him at all on this tour, will be about 3 weeks with no cricket at all for him and he isn't one of our best players of spin anyway. Yes he usually battles harder than most in these conditions but he always looks scratchy against spin. Unless there is an injury or illness stick with the same make up of the side. Obviously if the pitch suits pacemen then drop a spinner for Broad/Stone but Bairstow has to wait.

Who is this fella and what has he done with Keaton Jennings?
Honestly it's pretty rare for an England player to appear to have playing in Asia as their specialist subject, so we forgot that Jennings made more sense as a horses for courses pick than just playing because he's the incumbent.

It's kinda tragic that Jennings performing here (as he did in India) is likely to have him play all summer. According to the Beeb he now averages 57 vs spin and 18 vs pace.

If Leach takes wickets this series it's not going to mean he plays at home, it means he did his job. Can be true of batsmen too

Similarly all the people saying that Foakes is now the keeper for years to come, who knows if he has a technique that won't cut it against a quality pace attack. Clearly can play spin and is a far better gloveman than Bairstow and Buttler but until he is tried and tested we can't say.

Jennings would be well on the way to a double ton if he was driving instead of using the reverse-sweep. Or he would be out.

Sensational, professional performance.
Not our usual 'letting a great position slip'. All over them.

Well done Jennings

Also wouldn't at all begrudge His Roundness a few cheap sockets if we go on a declaration charge here

True, but it's one thing to replace a spinner with another quick when we're not in the SC. Quite another to replace an opener who's made runs, especially when the domestic cupboard is so bare.

Rangana Herath finishes with 2 for 59 in 23 overs in his last bowling innings in Test cricket. Leads them off and acknowledges the modest applause from a thin crowd on a Thursday evening. A hug with the coach as he climbs up the stairs. He finishes with 433 wickets at 28.07, one more than Hadlee, one fewer than Kapil Dev. Just as massive a player as either of them.
Poor from Cricinfo. He's more massive that those two put together and they know it.

Herath Equals Broad (433) salute to him - 5 wickets haul 34 times & 10 wickets in a test 9 times

Really surprised me that ENGLAND( ON -GOING TEST), FIRST TIME REACHED 300 IN EACH INNINGS IN SRILANKA

Srilanka need 462 to win off 187 overs.

I wanted el grande to get that 435th pole as much as I wanted Jenning's ton.

What a guy.
