*Official* England in West Indies 2022

Based on the squads, the fact that the pitch at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium has been seriously flat, and that spin does absolutely nothing there, I reckon the two lineups could be:

Windies:

Kraigg Braithwaite (c)
John Campbell
Nkrumah Bonner
Shamarh Brooks
Kyle Mayers
Jermaine Blackwood
Jason Holder
Joshua Da Silva (wk)
Alzarri Joseph (Permaul if they are brave enough to play a spinner)
Kemar Roach
Jayden Seales

Personally I think Anderson Phillip is a better red ball bowler than Alzarri but I think they'll go with Alzarri's experience and batting ability.

England:

Alex Lees
Zak Crawley
Joe Root (c)
Johnny Bairstow
Ben Stokes
Olly Pope
Ben Foakes (wk)
Chris Woakes
Olly Robinson
Mark Wood
Jack Leach

Though personally the spin stats are so average in Antigua I'd be tempted to play one of England's reserve seamers instead, like Mahmood.

Please no!! I don't care if they play Parkinson, Leach or Bess, let's not do this all-seam attack crap which permeated under Silverwood. Surely 4 pace bowlers are more than enough if they're good enough.

I agree with you. But the stats suggest spin is pretty useless in Antigua. Will be interesting to see if Colly carries on the Silverwood methodology.

Well hopefully stokes is fully fit to bowl, I still disagreed with Silverwood's philosophy, but it was often done because Ben could hardly bowl, personally I'd have just selected him as a batsman then, and dropped a Pope or someone who deserved leaving out, rather than unbalancing us from the start.

Worst case scenario here, I reckon is if we do finally **** up Roots career, making him bat where he doesn't want to and make him bowl 15 overs an innings, whilst still captaining a shower who can't bat or catch..

Root at 3 is interesting. It is extremely hard to either open or bat at number 3 in the Caribbean since they introduced the dukes ball with the harder seam. That's not just West Indian batsmen, visitors have struggled just as much.

I guess best case scenario is that your gun batsmen sees off the new ball and then it's easier for the others.

But equally Seales, Roach or Holder could get him out early and then you've effectively sacrificed the best batsmen.

Has Chemar Holder fallen out of favour or is he still injured?

Looking forward to seeing Jayden Seales bowl...

Mail

Aged just 20, Jayden Seales is a fast bowler on fast forward: he made his Test debut before he had played a competitive first-class match, he is the youngest West Indian to take a five-wicket Test haul and he already takes the new ball ahead of his seniors.

Given the rich history of pace bowling in the Caribbean, Seales is up against an extremely high bar, but England should take note of a cricketer who received his debut cap from Sir Curtly Ambrose and was still a teenager when he claimed five for 55 in the second innings, eight wickets in all and the player-of-the-match award in his third appearance, a victory over Pakistan six months ago.

Shayne Mosley's audition for test opener was a blast ...

He ran out his competition in Solozano by failing to respond to an easy single. Then he scratched around for 20 before getting bowled playing an atrocious slog against Jack Leach.
