Giles is ill, so Batty comes in.

Would've gone for Collingwood myself, although that would've meant we could've retained Read at 8!

But Edwards is taking wickets and bowled around 90+ in the last Test until his final few overs. Lawson is not bowling quicker than Edwards, and certainly isn't doing as much with the ball as he is.
That may well be true but Lawson is better at bowling to a line evidenced by his hat-trick and 7-wicket haul against the mighty Ausrtralians last year. Edwards started bowling slowly before his final few overs i think.

West Indies travelling quite comfortably now, after a subdued start. 1/80(21.5), with Gayle 55* (65 balls, 10 fours), and Lara 13*. Lara's most recent efforts against England at Antigua were 89 and ahem... 375, so, hopefully, he can come up with a big score here to put behind him the memories of a dismal series.

Well, it's a typical St John's wicket - as lifeless as Filey on a saturday night.

Crystal certainly played well, but to throw it away in the last over before lunch showed a distinct lack of concentration. He very nearly got undone by a Flintoff slower ball earlier.

Lara looked gone for the world on 0, but it just might well have been a fabulous decision by Darrell Hair. Or maybe not. Either way, no argument from me - the umpire's decision is final (as always). And if you think that's a dig at some people on other threads - you're dead right.

I'd say that the West Indies will be gutted if they fail to make 400 on this track, but I still expect a result.

Of course the umpire's decision is final. No one's suggesting we form a mob and chase down the scorers until they overturn the decision. Despite the finality of the umpire's decision, we can still find fault with it and complain about it and still realize that our moaning and whining has no influence on the outcome of the game. So dig away!

IMO a certain nick - a noise, and the bat was nowhere near anything apart from the ball - but as has been stated, the umpire's decision is final!

Damn, why cant the most technically proficient batsman in world cricket score any runs!!!!

RE the umpiring decisions... It really bores me when people harp on like they dont really care about the rest of the game at all... WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND! So chill out and be thankful when its your batsmen who nicks it behind and isnt given...

Interestingly enough there was no change in seam position and no deflection, so I doubt there was a nick. Also, Lara is a walker.

Yeah, I noticed that. But, from the replay, I don't see where else the noise could have come from.

I was unaware that Rich2001 was on the England selection panel.
I would rather him on the England selection panel then say Rik or Richard because if they had their way Steve Harmison, Ashley Giles, and Andrew Flintoff wouldnt even make their respective counties 2nd XI's :D :p :blow: (the last one doesnt have much relevance just thought it looks good :D )
