But that's not quite the question you were asked.
I initially responded to his second sentence because my equivalents - KP and Bell - were automatic and top of mind.

I needed to have a think before responding to his question, so I did, and responded a mere ten minutes later. Which was time enough it seems for you to fire off an arsey post in a matter that had nothing at all to do with you.

You've "got me": clearly I should have been quicker; it took me a whole ten minutes to answer his question.

You'd do well to mind your own business in future, unless you enjoy embarrassing yourself in public.

this last wicket partnership is 40 runs already.....

is it the highest for 10th wicket for SL against England?

At what point do these runs from the 10th wicket stand stop being "handy runs" and become "bonus runs"? [/cliche confusion]

You didn't answer the question. Implicit in saying "X should be dropped" is the notion there's someone better or at least equivalent to replace them.

You've given your answer now, so well done you. I could hear from the other side of the world the sound of you clutching at straws for names to replace them with.

When you post things on a public forum, it opens them up for discussion by everyone. That's the nature of the place. If you want to keep your ramblings to yourself (and we'd all be grateful if you did), send your thoughts to:

This is such a good pitch for batting on, if only (for England's sake) Broad hadn't overstepped.

Sorry Ian - even though you averaged around 100 in 2011, we are going to pick a chap called Hales who averages barely 40 in First Class Cricket instead of you.

Yeah that would work well..
The truth is mate that you do not know whether or not Hales or anyone else would do a better job until they've been tried.

Surely the question to answer is this: Is this England batting lineup good enough?

I would say most definitely not given what we have seen in the UAE and here. If you agree with me, you must surely also accept that the solution is to bring in fresh blood. Otherwise you are accepting that reaching 200 once in every ten innings or suchlike in SC-like conditions is somehow acceptable or normal. I don't think it is.

Whether you like it or not, England has to replace the under-performers or they will once again slide into terminal mediocrity, and ridiculing batsmen who have yet to make their debuts - as if the very thought of their replacing top order players who have been outperformed by tailenders in recent series is inconceivable - just makes you look stupid.

Bell's 100 average in 2011 is pretty meaningless given the opposition he faced to get that. He proved against Ajmal and Gul what he was really worth. In conditions like these I reckon his average is nearer 20-25 and KP's is 15-20.

Now can Hales and Bairstow do better than that? Let's try them and see!

I've got a million of them. I put most of them up on Planet Cricket. Try over there.

Take your time with it, too :)
